Clinic Details: Kelowna General Hospital Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is a tertiary hospital and referral center with 349 beds, a full range of services, an adjacent cancer centre, a new state-of-the-art Centennial Building, and is the primary acute care facility in region. The new expansion that opened in May 2012 boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, larger operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. Future expansion plans are to continue the facility developments with the addition of the new Interior Health and Surgical Center, which will include the Cardiac Revascularization Center. KGH has several surgical services that provide regional care that includes General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Plastics, and Neurosurgery. Our facility is also the primary site for the UBC Southern Medical Program, turning KGH into a true teaching hospital. As such, this position will include instructing opportunities to residents and students in clinical environments. Practice Details: Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) has two (2) full-time permanent positions available for full-time Emergency Department physicians at KGH. Full-time requirements in the ED are 12-15 shifts per month using a request-based scheduling system (Websked). We have 19 full and part-time ED physicians on paid by FFS. We are a tertiary care ED and trauma centre. KGH is affiliated with the Southern Medical Program of UBC and we are actively involved in teaching medical students and residents. We have approximately 64,000 patient visits per year. The KGH ED will begin teaching Royal College residents in Emergency Medicine in association with UBC as of 2014, with 2 residents per year being based in Kelowna. The ED physicians bill MSP using a fee for service model. Opportunities exist to provide call as a Trauma Team Leader for KGH and/or a Critical Care Transport Advisor for Interior Health which is funded by the MOCAP plan.
