Week #1: Sunday Jan. 3 to Saturday Jan. 9
ARISE AND SHINE
These are certainly abnormal times.
There are numerous wars all around the world. We live under the
uncertainty of terrorist threats every day. Mass shootings and killings
don’t exactly surprise us anymore. There is economic greed and
political corruption in just about every country around the world. The
place of morality in society is debatable. Families and marriages are
buckling under intense pressure. There is no hope in social, political
and even religious leadership. The Church seems unable to offer any
clear sense of direction out of the hopelessness we live in. The
picture is not pretty!
But amidst all the gloom, there is hope because we serve a God of
hope.
Somehow, I have great confidence that God wants us to arise and
shine amidst the gloom and despair. God wants His church to arise
and shine. God wants His people to arise and shine!
The words of the Prophet Isaiah are instructive: “Arise and shine,
for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the
peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over
you.” (Isaiah 60:1-2.)
The current picture is not the way God intends for life to be.
Through the prophet Isaiah, I believe God is calling upon His
children to arise and shine amidst the darkness just as He did in the
days of Isaiah.
Let’s arise and shine for the Light of Jesus is with us; the power of
the Holy Spirit is with us and the glory of God is upon us. The
assurance of Scripture is that “the people who do know their God,
shall be strong and do exploits.” (Daniel 11:32).
Let’s make this year an amazingly fruitful one for us as individuals,
as families and as a church body.
Let’s arise and shine.
