
What shared tools are available with Desire2Learn ePorfolio in a stand-alone implementation?

DESIRE2LEARN RESPONSE
Desire2Learn ePortfolio is available as a “stand-alone” module. During implementation, we install and
configure both Desire2Learn ePortfolio, as well as a reduced Desire2Learn Learning Environment feature
set so that <<clientname>> can harness many of the shared tools. The list below identifies the tools that
are available with Desire2Learn ePortfolio in a “stand-alone” implementation:
Artifacts | Artifacts are evidence, illustrations and examples of learning, accomplishments and other
assets accumulated by the user. They can include a document, graphic, audio file, video file, presentation,
or other form of digital media which is uploaded and can be shared, assessed, etc.
Reflections | Free-form areas where your users can reflect on their learning process and associate that
reflection to one or multiple artifacts, collections, or presentations throughout their learning process.
Presentations | Desire2Learn ePortfolio provides a web project area that showcases your users’
achievements.
Collections | Collections are groups of artifacts, reflections and presentations. They are like folders or a
locker area except an item can belong to multiple collections at the same time.
Dashboard | The dashboard is an “at a glance” view of your users’ portfolio activity.
Roles and Permissions | Desire2Learn provides a full range of roles and permissions as a means for
granularly setting advanced access and security permissions associated with user accounts.
Desire2Learn Valence | The Desire2Learn Valence API is a set of interfaces to functionality and data
which allow organizations to extend functionality and enable interoperability into other campus and
social applications.
The Reporting tool | The Reporting tool provides a useful interface through which <<clientname>>
can create reports detailing student and system activity.
The Email tool | Communicate internally within Desire2Learn ePortfolio via the Email tool. (External
email can be configured as an integration project with our Professional Services team.)
The Dropbox tool | The Dropbox tool enables students to easily upload documents for assessment.
Picture Library | Desire2Learn provides a system widget allowing your users to upload their own
pictures into their user profile.
The News tool | Via the News tool or Global News tool, you can notify students of important
announcements and updates.
User Profile | Users can edit and populate their User Profile with information about themselves, their
hobbies, etc.
The Classlist tool | The Classlist too is an interactive environment for you to keep track of your users.

The Manage Files tool | A file management system for administrators to use for organizing and
managing files and folders performing basic tasks such as creating, editing, deleting, uploading, moving
files and folders, and zipping and unzipping files.
Navigation Bars | Navigation bars have a customizable set of buttons and graphics in a row used as a
central point to link your user to specific areas within Desire2Learn ePortfolio.
Preferences | Desire2Learn provides a utility to enable your users to customize the layout and
presentation options for their personal view of Desire2Learn ePortfolio.

administrators) to temporarily switch from their active role to another role in your organization by
selecting it from a drop-down list. This feature is helpful for customer support.

Desire2Learn ePortfolio verifying required plug-ins, browser version and settings and minimum screen
resolution and colour depth.

This allows users to share forms across different departments and event different organization.

communities.
