BOOK REVIEW: "Drop Dead Gorgeous" 2002 Kim Erickson By Gail Eberharter M.D. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is an excellent resource for those looking to avoid contact with unnecessary chemicals. Historical perspective and scientific studies help to show how dangerous the cosmetic industry is to our health. This book is mostly focused on women's health care products but could be useful to anyone. The author also speaks to the onset of chemical sensitivities at any time of hormone change (menopause or pregnancy) and why many chemicals in personal care products can trigger this. There is a good discussion of the cumulative effects of these ingredients and the availability of nontoxic alternatives if they exist. She also refers to A Consumers' Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients by Ruth Winter that is also very helpful. To learn more, please come join us on Tuesday, December 6th from 5:30-6:30 to hear Dr. Sara Rodgers discuss how to identify harmful ingredients and how to choose alternatives.
