Mrs. Pam Brown Business Teacher Corning High School P.O. Box 479 Corning, AR 72422 August 1, 2011 Ms. Landrey White c/o Zeta Tau Alpha Recommendations 315 Rock St. #1103 Little Rock, AR 72202 Dear Ms. White: Ms. Emily West has informed me that she is planning to attend the University of Arkansas and needs a letter of recommendation for rush. It is with great pride that I highly recommend Emily West for membership in the Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. I have had the opportunity to know Emily both as a student in my personal finance class and as a family friend. She is one of my daughter’s closest friends so I have had the opportunity to see her mature into a fine young lady. In school, Emily’s academic achievement is excellent. This past school year, she was a United States Senate Youth Program Semi-finalists (one of the top ten students in the state of Arkansas) which speaks volumes about her abilities and qualifications as a leader. Any teacher would love to have Emily as a student in class at any level of education. She is not only very intelligent, but she is also the model of a student with high character qualities. Our character education program stresses the following guiding principles: respect, initiative, trustworthiness, perseverance, contemplation, optimism, honesty, compassion, courage, loyalty, responsibility, and adaptability. Emily encompasses each principle completely. The students and staff members of Corning High School admired her not only for her intellect, but also for her wonderful personality, character and attitude. She was extremely responsible in every aspect of her student career. As a former student in my class, she completed all assignments above and beyond my expectations. As a family friend, I have found Emily to act in a mature manner beyond her years. She has grown up visiting in my home attending birthday sleepovers, etc. She has always been a friend to my daughter, Laura, since she moved to Corning in her junior high school years. Emily is very thoughtful and goes the extra mile to be a friend. She would make a great ZTA member. In my twenty nine years of teaching, I have encountered few students who I would recommend so highly on the academic level. As a mother, Emily has always been a trusted friend to my daughter and someone I could count on to be a positive influence in her life. If I could adopt one of Laura’s friends for a second daughter, it would be Emily. I wish the ZTA ladies a successful rush this year. I remember how much fun and work rush can be and know my ZTA sisters will make good decisions about our future ZTA sisters. I have kept up with the girls in the chapter now by viewing Facebook pictures of the daughters of some of my ZTA sisters - Marcia Kirksey Wise and Kathy Williams Frein. Again, I highly recommend Emily West for consideration as a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.
