9th Grade Advisory Schedule 1st Term: Welcome students and set ground rules for Advisory Days (Wednesday) Attend Freshman Class meeting the first few days Review Handbook and encourage students to participate in clubs and to attend school events Conduct “Get to know you” and team building activities (may utilize resources found on http://chsadvisory.wikispaces.com/) Attend Freshman Class meeting on texting Introduce SDMyLife to the students and have them add freshman classes to Personal Learning Plan and complete My Goals & Plans Discuss Career Clusters utilizing SDMyLife Magazine using lesson plans provided Teach students how to use Student Portal to check homework, grades & attendance. Password: first and last initials (no caps) and their birthday - ex: jb06231999. 2nd Term: Continue with Career Cluster lessons using SDMyLife Magazine (4 lessons total) Begin SDMyLife Portfolio development (Learning Styles Inventory, My Careers, My Education, My Saved Majors, My Activities & Experiences, My Assignments & Activities, My Journal, My Advisement Log) Continue Academic, Personal/Social and Career lessons found on the WIKI Attend Freshman Class meeting on Graduation Requirements and other topics 3rd Term: Attend Freshman Class meeting regarding registration Have students complete the SDMyLife Matchmaker prior to registration for next year’s classes Review report card and utilize Graduation Requirements checklists Distribute and discuss registration material Aid students in entering selected classes online during assigned times Enter Sophomore classes chosen onto SDMyLife personal learning plan Discuss bullying utilizing resources on http://chs-advisory.wikispaces.com/ or as distributed from Rachael’s Challenge 4th Term: Continue to discuss topics of interest to the students Complete their SDMyLife Portfolio requirements Review graduation requirements, classes they have failed and have them adjust their schedules for next year accordingly Remind students to fill any empty blocks on their schedule prior to the end of school Throughout the year: Perform periodic grade checks throughout the week Contact parents with concerns regarding students Request SAT’s as needed Welcome and orient new students Monitor ICU list and send students to appropriate location
