Situation desperate!!!!!!
YOUR netball league will not continue in September unless volunteers come forward to sit
on the committee…………………….
Your committee is made up of people like you who simply want to make sure that the game
we love continues to be played in Thurrock by its 1500+ members. We know that your time
is precious but we have no choice but to ask you to consider giving up some of it as without
you we are nothing and without a committee you cannot play!
Being a committee member may sound a little scary but it isn’t, we welcome everybody,
people of all ages, with or without experience that simply want to do their bit. We look first to
our members as they are passionate about netball and in almost all cases already playing,
umpiring, coaching, managing teams and therefore are perfect to sit on the committee but
we also welcome spectators, mums, dad’s, cousins, aunties in fact anyone who feels that
they have time to spare to learn some new skills, make new friends and give something back
by keeping the league running as it has done for nearly 50 years.
So how about it, would you like to continue playing netball and volunteer to sit on the
committee? Below are the roles that are vacant and a little bit about them:
Vice Chairman
The candidate should support the Chairman and undertake any roles assigned to them and
take the chair when the chairman in unable to attend.
Results Secretary
The candidate distributes results and registration cards to the league, then collates and
keeps accurate records of all results, dealing with club/teams issues and imposing
penalties/fines in line with our rules/constitution. They compile weekly results for posting on
the website; compile midway tables and final tables for website and league. Compile
Fixtures at the beginning of each season.
Umpiring Secretary
The candidate should be a qualified grade ‘C’ or above umpire. They are responsible for the
implementation of all umpiring aspects of the county/league, including the arranging of
courses, training, testing, tutoring and mentoring. They should maintain records of qualified
umpires in the county, report back to the committee, attend Regional TSG meetings.
Coaching Secretary
The candidate should be a qualified level ‘2’ or above coach. They are responsible for the
implementation of all coaching aspects of the county/league, including the arranging of
courses, training, testing, tutoring and mentoring. They should maintain records of qualified

The candidate should arrange tournaments throughout the year, creating entry forms,
booking facilities and umpires, arranging playing schedules, trophies.
Events Secretary
The role of Events Secretary is to organise social events in our league, including our twice
yearly presentation evenings and any other social events such as Christmas parties,
summer bbq, quiz nights, tours, attending international events etc.
The twice yearly presentation involves: sending invitations to winners/runners up, printing of
tickets, receipt of ticket money, ordering of trophies/medals, arrange venue and dj, raffle
tickets/prizes and refreshments.
Schools Secretary
Ideally this candidate should be involved with schools, a teacher would be perfect. The
candidate should liaise with all schools in Thurrock at all ages, supporting teachers in those
schools and reporting back to the committee, working with the coaching sec to promote
netball in schools. Assuring all schools are EN affiliated.
Disciplinary Secretary
This is a new post in accordance with EN disciplinary procedures, this is a non-voting
committee position and attendance at committee meetings is not necessary, full training will
be by EN appointed tutors.
EN code of conduct defines the post as follows:
Disciplinary Secretary means the person nominated by an Appropriate Authority and
appointed internally to acknowledge Complaints, maintain the Disciplinary and Appeals
Register and handle all administration matters concerning the operation of the Disciplinary
Regulations for that body, including communicating the Decisions of the Investigation,
Disciplinary or Appeal Panels to all parties. The Disciplinary Secretary must receive England
Netball training every two years in order to continue in the role.
Publicity Officer
The candidate is responsible for publishing any county/league events and results, through
local and online media, Facebook, twitter etc. and the website. They should liaise with the
committee to promote the county/league. Produce newsletters for the county/league. Invite
local press to events.
All committee members must have current DBS, formerly CRB, they must sign and
abide by the EN code of conduct for officers, and they must all ensure the
county/league adheres to the EN Duty of care guidelines.
Some roles may need up to 2-3 hours a week commitment, others less. We hold
committee meetings every 5-6 weeks and they last around 2-3 hours. With the
exception of the disciplinary Secretary all are voting positions and so all officers must
attend committee meetings regularly and if unable to attend must send a report in
their absence and must attend the AGM.
If you are interested in any of these positions or would like some further information please
contact: Hon. Sec. Dawn Stair (dawn.stair@aonbenfield.com) or your Chairman Donna
Eagling (d.deagling@virgin.net)
