along the glasses to play music. They also made cup

Shoe-Box Appeal by Annie Kearns
This year our school took part in the shoebox appeal.
It is where you get a shoebox and put anything to
wear, write and a wow little toy to play with.
Everyone did the shoebox appeal. Then we sent it off
to a child who needed it. We were very happy to take
part in the shoebox appeal.
Art Competition by Arthur Martins Baião
We took part in the SightSavers art competition
‘Imagine Life in 2030’. Each child had to paint a
picture illustrating what they thought life would be
like in the year 2030. Some of the students drew flying
cars, robots, flying people and lots of other cool stuff.
We really enjoyed imagining what life would be like in
2030.
Concertina By Saoirse Dillon
We are learning to play the concertina with Jackie.
Second class is just starting it. You have to be careful
with them or else they will break. Second class are
learning hot cross buns
and ‘Did you ever
wonder why?’ The older
students are learning
tunes such as Fáinne
Gheal an Lae. The
concertina is great fun.
Halloween Games by James Kearns
On Halloween we had a party in school. We played
games such as bob the apple and snap apple. We
were allowed to bring in sweets. We were allowed to
dress up. We had lots of fun.
Science week By Daniel Lee
Science week was on in November. The big room
studied properties and changes. We investigated acids
and bases and what happens when they mixed
together. We made a lava lamp and a volcano. We
tried to make crystals too. The junior room was
exploring sound it was lots of fun. The junior room got
different size cups and filled them with different
amounts of water and got a spoon and they dragged it
Easter 1916 by Nathan Cooney
In school we did a project about life around the time
of the Easter 1916 rising. We wrote about what they
did in 1916. People in Ireland watched episodes of the
‘Broken Coin’ every week. I did a project about
Michael Cusack and GAA. Annie and Gustavo talked
about Past times, storytelling and poems. First and
Second Class learned about butter, blacksmiths, dress
makers, light and flour. The infants compared school
life now to school life in 1916. They talked about
children in school and what things they had and did
not have. Very soon we will be getting an Irish flag.
We will be playing Fáinne Gheal an Lae on the
concertina. I will also be reading a piece from the
Proclamation. We are looking forward to getting the
Irish flag.
In November we remember by Kieran Lee
November is the month when we remember people
that are in heaven. In school we drew pictures of
people who are in heaven. Ms Kennedy’s class made
flowers for our remembrance garden. We had a
prayer service and Fr. Seamus came in and said some
prayers with us. It is nice to remember people who
have died.
Christmas Carol Service by Gustavo Martins Baião
On Friday December 18th we had our Christmas Carol
Service with Tubber N.S. in Tubber Hall. We played
the concertina and the tin whistle, we sang lots of
songs: Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, Silent
Night, Frosty the Snowman, Two thousand years ago,
Special news, Drummer boy, Rudolph the Red Nose
Reindeer and Jingle Bells. We also told the story of the
birth of Jesus. We all wore different costumes some
were angels, some were stars. There were shepherds,
wise men, Mary and Joseph and lots of town’s people
too. We worked very hard and had lots of fun.
Visit by Farmer Keane, by Saoirse Dillon
A farmer came to visit our school. He showed us a
slide show. We learned a lot about the Burren. We
learned that the cows go up to the mountains in the
winter and come down in the summer. They said that
people built V shaped walls so if the wind was blowing
the cows would go to the other side of the wall. We
showed them our pictures that we drew. They gave us
leaflets for what was on. There was a winterage walk.
Prayer Service by Annie Kearns
On Tuesday 15th of December Fr. Seamus came to our
school and we had a small prayer service for
Christmas. We talked about Advent and lit the rose
candle for joy. We also talked about the Birth of Jesus
and how special Christmas Day is. We prayed for lots
of people so they could have a happy Christmas.
Compost by Nathan Cooney
In school we learned about compost. A person called
Joan talked about it. We learned that you can put in
leaves, banana skins, orange skins, veg, twigs and
leaves. There are four rules about composting. First
you need a mixture of greens and browns. Second you
need to be careful
about the size and
amount you put
into the
composting box.
Third you need to
add moisture to it.
And last you need
to turn it to let the
air get into it. We have no compost at school but the
children came up with a rule that every second week
the teachers take home the school’s compost. We are
working really hard to receive our Green Flag and are
learning lots of new ways to help our environment.
ISPCC by Kieran Lee
We are collecting
used stamps for the
ISPCC. For every 10kg
of stamps the ISPCC
gets some money to
help children in need.
If you would like to
help please drop in
your used stamps to
Boston N.S. We will be collecting them for the year.
Green Schools by Kieran Lee
In Boston we are trying to reduce our waste. All the
boys and girls
are trying to
bring in reusable
bottles. We are
also using a new
linen roller
towel. Hopefully
it will help us
reduce our
waste.
Christmas Time by James Kearns
We learned about Christmas around the world. The
big room did projects on Christmas traditions in other
countries. We all did lots of Christmas art and we put
up and decorated a Christmas tree. The Junior room
created an advent
calendar with lots
of fun and active
surprises for every
day on the lead
up to Christmas
Day. We really
enjoyed getting
into the Christmas
Spirit and we are
all looking forward to the Christmas holidays.
Musical
We went to see the musical Sleeping Beauty on
Monday the 21st of December. The musical was in
Limerick University Hall. We went with Tubber
National School. Some people are going with their
families to the show as well.
Pre-School Nativity by Daniel and Kieran Lee
On Friday the 18th we went to watch the pre-school’s
Christmas Nativity. This told the story of the birth of
baby Jesus. They sang ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘All I
want for Christmas is my two front teeth’. There were
lots of different characters: Mary, Joseph, angels,
shepherds,
wise men and
a narrator.
The children
were really
good and we
all enjoyed
getting to
watch them
perform.
