C& I Graduate Student Capacity and Marketing/
Discussion about the website. Open for discussion about how to build the Master program. Rodney outlined the difficulty about finding information about the graduate program (specifically the Masters program) on our website.
Associate Dean to meet with Paul to discuss the presence of the C & I Department. Ernie asked about the presence about how well the website is working for us. Ernie expressed his concern about the website. Ernie suggested using additional help to provide with this. Ernie asked if there are any university wide resources to help facilitate with this.
Paul gave statistics- 66 students who are currently enrolled in Masters programs whereas last year there were 24 (and this doesn’t also include Special Education). Paul suggested that we need to examine these efforts.
Paul discussed the 5 Masters students- there are 2 of the students who are borderline. One doesn’t have an initial advisor and the other one has maybe votes. M.C. got yes votes from everyone. Rodney offered to be the initial advisor. The student has a strong application. Rodney will serve as an initial advisor.
Ernie discussed the practices in his program that if no one wanted to be the advisor then the suggestion would be to not include the person in the program.
The Wright Fellows- an announcement- Melissa Saul wanted to bring up that she needed instruction
EDCI Intr to Research, EDCI 504 and an additional course. If you are interested in teaching in the Wright
Fellows, ask what courses and what it is involved. Emily asked what the timing was.
Faculty Areas of Research- Deanna compiled a list of faculty and their expertise. Anne wanted everyone to look at this and to see if you are represented fairly. Send those edits to Paul who will adapt and work with the web person.
Webfolio Defense M. Ed. Culminating Experience
Paul developed this in Taskstream and the reviewers can examine this in Taskstream. He discussed the value of this and the ways that the student will have to use this to discuss during the defense. Melissa S. asked to share this because it is a way to document the student’s experience. The persons involved are going to use Elluminate to do the defense. It is a public defense. Please think about doing this project with your Masters students.
Move to the next item.
Report/ Action C & I Program Handbook. You can click on the link to see what persons have volunteered to do. A reminder to get this completed. Paul posed the question- can we expect a first draft by the next meeting- April 1? Emily suggested we postpone. Some can and some can’t.
Report C& I NCATE Documentation: Paul showed the 7 goals and the signature assignments for the various courses. There was a discussion about the chart- and the syllabi sent to Anne. Temporary faculty need to be asked to fill this in for the chart as well.
Report combined: 570/ Research Course- Paul asked if anyone has talked with anyone in other courses.
Melissa S. has been teaching this course. A total of 25 students/ max for these online courses. 15 for
EDCI and 10 for CTE- About 10 of the students are outside of the department AOL/ EDAD – Paul inquired with the departments about this and the departments said they have their own research course and should not be taking this course. No comments.
