Job Title: Department: Who you report to: Who reports to you: Salary: Probation Period: Holiday entitlement: Senior Technician (stage) Technical Technical Manager Technicians, apprentice technicians, casual technical staff £20,700 (Officer grade 1) 3 months 20 rising to 25 days + public holidays Background: The Senior Technician (stage) works as part of a broader technical team to deliver the technical requirements of all productions, events and activities inside and outside of the building. The aim of your job is: To provide excellent customer service to customers and visitors to The REP To provide efficient and effective supervision of all technical operations for The REP To install, operate and maintain all technical equipment in The REP To supervise and deliver the safe and efficient set up and running of productions & events To ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of customers and staff at all times To maintain standards of quality in all areas of work To ensure excellent communication between departments and teams To actively contribute to the running of the Technical Department To deputise for the Technical Manager What your main duties cover: Supervision and delivery of scenery and equipment between workshops and venues Inspection of all rigging equipment and supervision of lifting operations for all departments, productions and events Rigging and operating stage machinery Running fit-ups and get-outs Liaison with creative teams and visiting companies on the technical requirements for productions Delivery of production deadlines and schedules as set by the Production Managers and Technical Heads of Department Supervision and provision of technical services in staging, lighting, sound and AV for productions, conferences, hires and visiting companies To carry out stage, lighting, sound, AV or general maintenance duties as required by all the technical heads of department Maintenance of good housekeeping within the department’s areas Maintenance of technical department equipment and records. Liaison and collaboration with other departments Close liaison with other technical departments to promote a safe working environment and positive health and safety culture The running and maintenance of performances ensuring continued adherence to the creators’ original design Contribution of proposals for the improvement of the Technical Department Research new technical developments and implement appropriately Manage resources effectively, maximising income and minimising expenditure wherever possible General: Deputise for Technical Manager. Maintain a high standard of appearance when working with the public. Deliver duties at venues outside of The REP and Birmingham. Liaise with relevant Library of Birmingham staff as and when necessary. Support and promote all company policy, with specific attention to Equality & Diversity, Customer Care, Health & Safety and Data Protection. Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times with particular regard to the health, safety and welfare of customers, visitors, staff and yourself. Support the organisation and its staff through the effective use of the performance management system. Any other reasonable duties required to ensure the smooth running of the Technical Department. Qualifications: Industry-recognised qualification / certification in rigging is desirable First Aid certificate is desirable Full, clean driving license (up to 3.5 tons) is essential Previous Experience: Extensive knowledge and experience of all related technical equipment to operator and rigging level is essential Computer Literate in Microsoft Office, Artifax, Vectorworks and AutoCAD is desirable Knowledge of the Health & Safety legislation is essential Personal attitudes: Positive, proactive, self motivated and flexible approach Genuine interest in the Arts Ability to cope with physically demanding work A willingness to work evenings, overnight and at weekends when necessary Comfortable working at heights A desire to learn and develop Be able to show initiative and resilience when dealing with change Competencies: The REP uses a competency framework to describe the abilities and personal attributes that are displayed by people who are successful in this particular position.
