Campus Advisory Council Martin Middle School December Minutes Data Available for Review: o Martin Middle School Dashboard/ Data Review Attendance Discipline Math English Science Social Studies Course Failure Rates Attendance Data: 8th grade high number of absences is a district-wide trend There is a big discrepancy between the number of absences in each grade level. We are providing an attendance recovery program for students to make up absences and get class credit after school. This helps the students, but does not credit the school for the absences. We need to start thinking ahead about how to get students here on inclement weather days. Ideas: survey during advisory as to why students are absent, flyer encouraging parents to send students to school and sharing resources for housing, clothing, etc., contact specific students who have missed more than 5 days (Mr. Machuca does this) before gathering data on all students Discipline Data: There has been a spike in fights. We have implemented new dismissal procedures to avoid this. We are looking at proactive approaches- may partner with Camacho Center to implement a leadership program’ We have a licensed therapist on campus working with students. We will be doing hour long SEL lessons in the Spring to be implemented via Restorative Justice circles Discussion on substance abuse and how to make parents aware Math & ELA Single teachers were failing many students and bringing these numbers up. This has been dealt with. Science Social Studies Students failing more than 2 classes We anticipate this to decrease in the Spring as UIL and sports pick up. Adjourn NEXT MEETING: January 25th
