Saint Joseph United Methodist Church Job Description Title: Director of Family Ministries Effective: Directly Supervises: 25-30 paid staff Status: Full Time FSLA: Exempt Reports to: Senior Pastor/Assoc. Pastor Date last reviewed: Job Summary: The Director of Family Ministries will provide vision and direction for ministry with families who have children ages 5th grade and under. This person will supervise and oversee Children’s Spiritual Formation staff which include Sunday morning, Preschool, Childcare and all other areas of ministry to children. They will ensure that all aspects of these ministries for children within the church and the wider community are Christ centered, effective and aligned with the mission statement of Sow, Grow and Go. The Director of Family Ministries will ensure the integration of all areas of ministry for children and their families, and will work to empower staff, volunteer teams and individuals to carry out ministry effectively. Essential Job Functions: Plan for the future of ministry to Children through discernment and visioning, innovation, and enrollment progression. Responsible for the supervision and encouragement of paid staff in the areas of Children’s Spiritual Formation, Weekday Children’s Ministries and other areas of children’s ministry as developed. o Work with Children’s Spiritual Formation to ensure alignment in curriculum across all areas of children’s ministry. o Equip all Children’s Ministry staff to identify and train volunteer leaders in their ministry areas as appropriate. Oversee all aspects of management in Preschool, Childcare, Summer Children’s Programs and Children’s Spiritual Formation, including budgets, program registration, program curriculums and regular parent, volunteer and staff communications. Work closely with the Saint Joseph staff to ensure clear communication and alignment of all programming. Provide leadership and oversight in the area of Family Ministry o Work with teams and individuals to ensure Biblically focused ministries designed to enrich the lives of families and individuals within the church and to the wider community o Advocate for the full inclusion of children and families in living out the church Mission Vision Statement Ensure compliance with Saint Joseph’s Safe Sanctuary Policy by managing background check/volunteer screening, monitoring adult/child ratios and other tasks as needed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for children. Oversight of recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of all paid and volunteer staff in the Children’s Ministry area to ensure appropriate care for children and staff retention as well as administration and programming. Determine and maintain official/formal status of Children’s Ministry appropriate to the mission of Saint Joseph as directed by Saint Joseph’s Church Administrative Council. Communicate with all groups or agencies by providing timely and accurate program information and reports. Minimum Qualifications: Relate well with Children and Adults Understand financial transactions and budgetary concerns Knowledge of and ability to operate PCs and utilize office programs A love of children and a desire to facilitate spiritual formation through ministry to the extended family Active involvement with Saint Joseph Experience in working with and developing teams 3 years working in a program for children Certified training in business management or 2 years of administrative and management experience BA in Christian Education, Elementary and/or early childhood education or certification in Early Childhood Education Knowledge of overall church, its offerings, activities and events Core Competencies: Faith/Belief: Shows strong personal depth and Christian faith; demonstrates integrity by walking the talk, and by responding with constancy of purpose; is seen by others as trustworthy and authentic; nurtures a rich spiritual life; seeks the wisdom and guidance of appropriate mentors; is able to articulate a clear and consistent theology. Working Environment: Work environment includes all locations within the church and those on church property.
