List of those species of Ordovician and Silurian chilidiopsoid brachiopods probably
belonging to either Coolinia and Fardenia, but whose published illustrations do not show the
characteristic generic diagnostic features described in the printed paper. In this online
material only references additional to those in the printed text are given.
Several species were originally described as Orthotetes Fischer, 1829 (now within the
Orthotetidae); Schellwienella Thomas, 1910, Schuchertella Girty, 1904, and Streptorhynchus
King, 1850 (all within the Schuchertellidae) or Strophomena Rafinesque in de Blainville,
1824 (in the Strophomenidae). The Devonian to Permian families Orthotetidae and
Schuchertellidae were revised by Williams & Brunton (2000), and the Ordovician and
Silurian Strophomenidae were revised by Cocks & Rong (2000).
Schuchertella subplana var. brevior Foerste, 1923, from un-named beds of uncertain age
(possibly Hirnantian) below the Brassfield Limestone in Centerville, Ohio, U.S.A.
Schuchertella missouriensis var. convexa Savage, 1913, from the Noix Limestone
(Hirnantian), Illinois, revised by Amsden (1974) as Coolinia? convexa, but no
interiors or interareas are known.
Fardenia costatula Cooper and Kindle, 1936, from the Whitehead Formation (Katian) of
Percé, Quebec, Canada.
Schuchertella creditensis Foerste, 1923, from the Whirlpool Sandstone (Rhuddanian) of
Credit Forks, Ontario, Canada. Revised as Fardenia? by Lamont (1935).
Schuchertella curvistriata Savage, 1913, from the Channahon Limestone of Channahon,
Illinois, revised by Amsden (1974) as Coolinia? curvistriata, but no interiors or
interareas are known.
Schuchertella daytonensis Foerste, 1923, from the Brassfield Limestone (probably Aeronian)
of Dayton, Ohio.
Fardenia deflexa Tsegelnjuk, 1976, from the Kitaigorod Formation (Wenlock) of Podolia,
Ukraine.
1
Schuchertella elegans Prouty, in Prouty & Swartz, 1923, from the Rochester Formation
(Wenlock) of Maryland, U.S.A. Revised as Fardenia by Stearn (1956).
Fardenia ellipsoides Stearn, 1956, from the Atikameg Dolomite (Middle Silurian), Manitoba,
Canada.
Fardenia flabellata Beznosova, 1985, from the Marshrit Horizon (Telychian) of TimanPechora, Russia.
Schellwienella gorbiyatchensis Lopushinskaya, 1967, from the Llandovery of the Siberian
Platform, Russia (revised as Fardenia by Lopushinskaya 1976).
Orthis missouriensis Shumard, 1855, from the Giradeau Limestone (Late Ordovician) of
Missouri, U.S.A., revised as Coolinia? missouriensis by Amsden (1974), but the
types are lost and no interareas are known.
Fardenia plicata Bolton, 1957, from the Manitoulin Formation (Rhuddanian) of Manitoulin
Island, Ontario, Canada.
Schuchertella prosseri Foerste, 1919, from the West Union Formation (Llandovery) of
Hillsboro, Ohio, U.S.A.
Fardenia radiosa Tsegelnjuk, 1976, from the Molodovsk Horizon (Ludlow) of Podolia,
Ukraine.
Schuchertella roemeri Foerste, 1909, from the Brownsport Formation (Ludlow) of
Tennessee, U.S.A.
Schuchertella rugosa Swartz in Prouty & Swartz, 1923, from the Tonoloway Formation
(Pridoli), Maryland, U.S.A.
Fardenia subdivisa Bancroft, 1949, from an uncertain locality, but given as Cautley?, which
would indicate Late Katian rocks in the Lake District of England.
Streptorhynchus tenuis Hall, 1863, from the Waldron Formation (Telychian – Sheinwoodian)
of Indiana, revised as Schuchertella by Prouty & Swartz (1923).
Fardenia transversalis Stearn, 1956, from the Inwood Formation (Llandovery), Manitoba,
Canada.
Fardenia transversaria Bancroft, 1949, from the Coniston Limestone (Late Katian), Cautley,
Cumbria, England: only a single ventral valve interior is known.
Schellwienella williamsi Kulkov, 1967, from the Kyimov Formation (Ludlow) of the Gornoi
Altai, Russia.
