School Council Meeting Monday 12th October 2015 Absentees: Olivia Bradbury (7F); Theresa Spillana (7T); Laura Van Winden (Apologies received); Georgia Bookham (10T); Liyanda Major (11Y); Rachel McAven (12S); Amy Fitzgerald (Apologies received); Ayotomiwa Ojo (13S); Melissa Couvet (13F) Please could form tutors follow up the reasons why these students were absent. Matters Arising: Pupils were thanked for their contributions to the Young Mariners Trip on Friday. Pupils were shown photos from the trip. Eleanor Makoni (Year 8) raised the comment that Year 8 forms are not allowed to eat in their form rooms. 8F have been locked out because of issues with students eating in the form room. Action: Miss Ross to speak to Mrs Caulfield to see what the context is. Cecile (Year 8) commented that their form was not using the booklet designed to monitor eating in the form rooms. Action: Miss Ross to e mail the form tutor. Rachel McNair (Year 11) raised that some of Year 11 wished for there to be a water fountain in Mary Ward. There is a water fountain in the Year 7 area but it is in the locker room. Action: Rachel to go and see Mrs Hill to see whether this is something that might be able to happen in the future. Chloe Edgeson (Year 9) commented that a number of the locks in the PE department are broken. Action: Rachel McNair to raise this issue with Mrs Hill. Rebecca Burridge (Year 11) raised the issue that merits are not given out to Year 10 and 11 but the code system is still used. She asked whether the reward system could be reviewed. Miss Ross advised the School Council that previous School Councils have tried to look at this but this has never been completed. It would be lovely if it could be looked at a little more. Action: Miss Ross asked Year 10 and Year 11 to go back to their forms and ask them their thoughts and for any ideas. Molly Scanlon (Year 13) raised that the printer in the Sixth Form study area has been removed. She asked whether this could be returned. Action: Miss Ross said that she would follow up with IT Support. Rose Dolan (Year 8) asked whether there was a possibility of having a half hour lunchbreak on a Friday and finishing half an hour earlier. Miss Ross explained to students that generally we need our lunchhours because so many students live far away and therefore clubs are all at lunchtime. Action: Miss Ross to mention to Mrs Lynch, but students reminded that it would be a difficult change. Date of next meeting: Monday 19th October 2015
