HOME VISITOR: Good morning Mrs. Santos.
I am Eric Garza and I work for your school district. Your name was given to me by the
school secretary because your children may qualify for some services through our school
district’s Migrant Education Program. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?
PARENT:
No, Mr. Garza, I do not mind. Please go ahead.
HOME VISITOR: Thank you.
Are you presently working in agricultural or fishing related employment?
PARENT: Yes I am – Seguro que si
HOME VISITOR: Great. May I ask what you are doing?
PARENT: I am painting apple trees.
HOME VISITOR: Painting apple trees?
PARENT: Yes. We paint them to protect them from the insects.
HOME VISITOR: Interesting, I did not know that the farmers did that to the trees.
The school secretary tells me that you moved here in December. Where did you
move from?
PARENT: I moved from Oaxaca, Mexico to this ranch.
HOME VISITOR: Okay. So you moved here in December and you are painting apple trees.
From what you have told me, your children qualify for the program.
