Superb singing, great acting, jokes which made me laugh both nights, and even some acrobatics – all part of a real team effort which entertained us royally for over an hour. Having such opportunities to take risks, to leave their natural ‘comfort zone’ and to shine – that’s what learning is all about, and it is the ‘stuff’ which our children’s school memories should be made of! Star Work Congratulations to Ellie Chapman, Freya Sargant, Kayla Stevens and Ruby Gould whose brilliant work is on display on our Star Work board. Learning in school Our Active Learner focus across the school for the coming fortnight is: What helps me learn? What can I do to overcome obstacles? Race Meeting Tuesday 3rd February 4pm The next Race meet is at Downside School, Stratton on the Fosse. The race is open to any children in Y3 to Y6. Children do not need to be regular attenders at Mr Young's Friday Athletics club; the more children take part in the race, the more points we earn, so... get your trainers on! Wear Red, British Heart Foundation Fundraising Mufti Day The School Council have voted to have a Wear Red Mufti day on Friday 6th February to support the British Heart Foundation. Wear something red, and bring in a silver coin (e.g. a 50p coin) to donate to this good cause. If your child would like to have a heart or bow painted on their face, Miss Bonello and School Council members will be offering this service during the morning, for an additional donation. During the day, KS2 children will be making bracelets to sell at the end of the school day. Judo Taster sessions for Y3 to Y6 Diane White, the Judo coach who runs Judo classes in the hall each Thursday evening, is offering a ‘taster session’ to each of our junior classes next Thursday afternoon. The children will need to have their PE kit in school. She will get them playing warm up games and they will learn some basic moves, including a basic throw. A consent form, to be signed and returned for your child to take part, will come home in book bags on Monday. www.staldhelms.co.uk St Aldhelm’s VA Church Primary School Weekly Newsletter (continued) www.staldhelms.co.uk Issue: 22 30th January 2015 Staff changes in Reception and Year 1 Mrs May is sadly leaving us at half-term, to take up a new post in Herefordshire, where she and her family relocated in the autumn term. We will miss her creativity and character; I am sure you will join with us in wishing her all the best for her new life and job. Parents and carers in Year One and Reception have already received a letter outlining the changes to staffing from half-term, arising as a result of Mrs May’s departure: Mrs Reed is moving to be the full-time teacher in Reception for the interim. Miss Johnston will teach Y1 Kingfisher class 4 days a week. Mrs Thomas will teach Y1 Nightingale class 3 days a week. Mrs Thomson, an experienced EYFS and KS1 teacher who has already worked in school during the past fortnight, will be joining us after half-term as job share partner for Mrs Thomas and Miss Johnston. There will be a Welcome Meeting for parents to meet Mrs Thomson on Monday 9 th February at 3.30pm in Nightingale Classroom.
