NAME ________________________________ PERIOD ____________ JUNIOR ARCHAEOLOGIST DUE Friday 10/23/2015 Congratulations!!! You have been assigned to a dig! The site for your first dig is your own home. With the assistance of your parent or guardian, you are to uncover the oldest object (not the oldest person!) in your house. Maybe it is a book, a photograph, a recipe, or an article of clothing. Maybe it is your house. Whatever you find, that is your artifact from home. Your observations will be recorded in an archaeological report consisting of three paragraphs: PARAGRAPH 1: Write the name and a brief description of your artifact. PARAGRAPH 2: Name at least three things this artifact tells about your ancestry. Your parent or guardian would be a good source of information. If your artifact has nothing to do with your ancestry, then ask other questions about why it’s in your house and how did it get there. Ask what meaning it has to your family today. PARAGRAPH 3: List at least three ways that artifacts in general tell us information about different people and their history. For example, an old recipe tells how people used to cook in the past. In this paragraph, share what you learned about the science of archaeology in Chapter 1. Include a photograph, drawing, photocopy or scanned picture of your artifact in your archaeological report. DO NOT BRING THIS ARTIFACT TO SCHOOL!!! Your report must be typed, double-spaced in a font of 12 or 14. Points will be deducted if your report is not typed. Happy Digging!!!
