 Student uses proper PPE
 Student assembles materials needed: chromatography column, column support, tubing,
packing funnel, buffer & solutions, and chromatography medium
 Student sets up column in appropriate location and secures it well
 Student fits the column with a stopcock (turned off) and a packing funnel
 Student fills the column halfway full with the appropriate buffer
 Student fills the column and the packing funnel with the chromatography medium
 Student turns on the stopcock at a low flow rate
 Student monitors the packing process and adds more medium as needed with mixing
 Student never allows the column to run dry and stops flow when packing is complete
 Student sets up pump, tubing, and fraction collector as needed
 Student loads column appropriately according to the type of sample being run
 Student monitors the progress of the chromatography, including buffer levels, flow rate,
and volume and number of tubes for the fraction collector
