Seminar Announcement Dr. Anoosh Shamsabadi PE, ASCE Senior Bridge Engineer Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction Specialist Office of Earthquake Engineering California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Sacramento, CA Friday, November 21, 2014 12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Micron Engineering Center Room 114 Abstract The primary focus of the seminar will be to highlight the importance of coupling the knowledge and expertise of both bridge engineers as well as geo-engineers in order to simulate the real behavior of non-standard bridges subjected to seismic excitation. The theme of this seminar is innovation and advancement of technology in earthquake engineering which can provide increased seismic safety of bridges structures. Implementation of Nonlinear Time History (NTH) analysis using AASHTO LRFD specifications for Safety Earthquake Evaluation (SEE) and Functional Earthquake Evaluation (FEE) will be discussed. Application of soil-structure interaction (SFSI) is crucial to accurate prediction of seismic behavior and hence the cost efficient design of the infrastructures. Implementation of isolation bearing is gaining popularity and the benefit of such strategy will be discussed.
