We are very excited to welcome her to Cherrytree. She will be telling stories to our students in grades 1 to 4. Mrs. Regis Kankam, a member of our Cherrytree staff, will be presenting songs and stories about our black heritage to our kindergarten students. 3 School Success at Cherrytree Our school success plan for 2014-15 is focused on improving our students’ literacy and mathematics skills. During term 1 and in term 2, the teachers participate in teacher learning days in order to plan and implement units of study that support these goals. This year, we continue our implementation of the Leveled Literacy program. Thank you to all the parents who read regularly with their children. You do make a difference. During February, our grade 2 and our new grade 1 teachers will receive training on the use of the new program. Computer Resources to Help Your Child Parents of students in grades 1 to 4 have received two letters recently about computer based programs that you can use at home with your students. One letter was about a reading program called Raz Kids, which you can access from home. The second letter was about a Mathematics program called IXL, which is also accessible at home. The letters give specific instructions about passwords and how to access the programs. If you did not receive these letters, please check your child’s backpack. Should you need another copy, please write a note in your child’s agenda to the classroom teacher. Students have been introduced to these programs at school and are encouraged to continue building their skills by using them at home. Arriving at School on Time School at Cherrytree begins at 8:55 a.m. The first bell rings and students come inside to remove their outdoor clothing and get ready for the day. The second bell rings at 9:00 a.m. Class instruction starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please have your children at school on time. Research shows that arriving at school on time and regular attendance, help students succeed in school. Please help us to give your child every advantage by having them at school by 8:55 a.m. Please note: During inclement weather, such as extreme cold or heavy rain, the students are brought into the school at 8:45 a.m. Send your child dressed for the weather. If the temperature moderates during the day, the students will go out for recess and after lunch. Food Policy at Cherrytree Because of the severe allergies and the safety of all our students, staff cannot distribute treats or food which has been sent in from home. If you wish to remember your child’s birthday or wish to send in a class treat, please consider items such as pencils, special erasers or a little note book. Bags containing candy or food items cannot be distributed. 4 Insπre. Gr23ness. 2gether.
