ISD 2170, Room 601 October 6, 2015, 4:00 PM Present for all or part of the session were: K. Lindgren, J. Hofer, G. Campbell, D. Bestland, L. Kajer, C. Hadfield (constituting a quorum) C. Trout, D. Hoemberg, M. Lord, M. Schmidt, M. Klamm and Mary Freeman. Lindgen, called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. The agenda was accepted with a motion by Hadfield and second by Bestland. Motion carried. The minutes of September 15, 2015 were accepted with a motion by Hofer and second by Trout, motion carried. A photo was taken for the school webpage. Trout and Kajer gave an update on the staff meetings held on Oct. 1 and Oct 6, 2105. On Oct. 1st the duties and responsibilities of Tina Mitts, the new tech/tutor were discussed. On Oct 6th the staff discussed the need for more science and English project completion by some students, the field trip to the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Kathio State Park, and the Project Show Case Evening. Bestland reported on the Bridges Skills Camp to be held at Camp Shamineau on Oct. 21 & 22 and Kajer talked about the new Bridges CTE Academy that will be added to CHS. To complete the academy students must pass at 80% Career Foundations, Resource Management and two Career and Technical classes that are from different departments. Financial Report: Lord presented the preliminary 2014-15 CHS Budget, which showed an income balance of $92,241. Hofer stated that the staff might want to think about adding more Language Arts time since that has been a concern. Kajer asked about how the money is carried over. Lord said this money would be carried over to the 2015-2016 school year. Next month Lord will present the 2015-16 budget. Hadfield told the board that he will be resigning from his position at CLC to take a job for the State of Minnesota. He will be talking to the CLC president about a replacement for him on the CHS Board. He was thanked for his dedication to CHS and wished well in his new job. The Project Show Case night will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 starting with a 5:45 – 6:00 pm social. The formal agenda will start at 6 pm and includes two large group project presentations by six students followed by informal presentations in the main CHS classroom concluding at 7:30 pm. The next morning, the students who attended the Project Show Case event, will have a coffee and donut gathering to evaluate the evening. The CHS leadership team divided up responsibilities for the Project Show Case evening. 1 Schmidt presented a draft bill that was given to him by CHS students regarding the number of nights they must attend Project Show Case events. Hadfield moved to acknowledge that the bill was read, discussed and no action taken. Bestland seconded the motion. Motion carried. Career Foundations will be piloting a program developed by Erik Chester on the importance of work ethic. The Perkins Consortium will pay for the books and workbooks for the students. The students, upon completion, can receive an online certificate verifying they completed the course. Hadfield said he heard him at a Career and Technical Education conference and that he was very good. Klamm suggested that Erik Chester be hired to present to the students, possibly at the Bridges Career Fair. She would like to pursue that idea with NJPA. Lindgren adjourned the meeting at 4:50 PM with a motion by Trout and a second by Hadfield. Motion carried. 2
