2014-2015 SENIOR STUDENT / PARENT AGREEMENT
Participation in Senior Year Extracurricular Activities
The Santa Cruz City School District and its comprehensive high schools are committed to ensuring that the final year of
high school is successful for each high school senior. The District and its high schools are further committed to creating a
safe, orderly, and dignified senior year that is respectful of self and others, and that creates an environment conducive to
learning.
Participation in senior year extracurricular activities and events is a privilege, not a right. Accordingly, the privilege of
participating in the following senior year extracurricular activities and events may, at the discretion of a school site or
District Administrator, be revoked for failure to comply with the terms of this Senior Student/Parent Agreement
(“Agreement”) and other District policy, as applicable:
1. Commencement Exercises
2. Senior trips
Any Santa Cruz City School District high school senior who wishes to participate in the extracurricular activities and
events listed above, must, together with a parent/guardian, read, sign, and return this Agreement.
THE DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING PARTICIPATION IN SENIOR YEAR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITES AS
REFERENCED IN THIS AGREEMENT WILL BE ENFORCED AS OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE SECOND SEMESTER
OF THE SENIOR YEAR.
ALL AGREEMENTS MUST BE RETURNED TO the Assistant Principal NO LATER THAN JANUARY 30, 2015.
In addition to any or all other consequences as provided in law, District policy, or school rules, violation of the following
provisions of the California Education Code, District policy, or school rules during a student’s senior year may, at the
discretion of a school site or District Administrator, result in revocation of the student’s right to participate in any of the
senior extracurricular activities or events listed above:
Commission of any of the following acts set out in Education Code § 48915, subdivisions (a)-(c), for which: (1) expulsion has been
ordered but enforcement has been suspended; or (2) expulsion has been recommended and is pending, specifically:
o Possessing, selling, or furnishing a firearm
o Brandishing a knife
o Possessing an explosive
o Committing or attempting to commit sexual assault or committing sexual battery
o Selling a controlled substance
o Causing a serious physical injury
o Possessing a knife or other dangerous object
o Robbery or extortion
o Assault or battery upon a school employee
Commission of any of the following acts as set out in Education Code § 48900, et seq., which results in a recommendation for
suspension or expulsion:
o Vandalism or theft of school or private property (Please note: “senior pranks” which result in damage to school facilities may
be treated as vandalism)
o Terroristic threats
o Hate violence
o Possessing a controlled substance
Revocation of the right to participate in senior year extracurricular activities and events, including participation in
graduation ceremonies (i.e., “walking”), may be reinstated only at the discretion of school site or District Administration.
However, all decisions regarding the revocation of senior year participation privileges may be appealed directly to the
District Board of Trustees.
BY MY SIGNATURE, I AM ACKNOWLEDGING THAT I HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF
ITS TERMS.
