Massachusetts Domestic Violence Homicide Narratives January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014 January 4, 2014: Mabilia Maranhao, 22, and her boyfriend at the time, Sharif Goode, 22, both of New Bedford were found dead of apparent murder-suicide. No information has been released from the authorities confirming who committed the homicide or the cause of death, though a relative reported finding them both with gunshots to the head. The police say there were no reports of domestic violence, and Goode’s family, who spoke to the press claims the relationship was not abusive. The couple had a 1year-old boy. February 20, 2014: Solanlly Paulino, 23, of Peabody was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, 43 year old Franklin Castano. Castano turned himself in to Lynn police. Solanlly’s family warned her to get away from Castano; they described him as “controlling” and “obsessive.” Her family had staged interventions trying to convince her to leave Castano. In December 2010 Castano was charged with assault and battery, but the charges were later dropped when Solanlly refused to testify. A few months prior in September 2010, Castano was charged with assault and battery against his ex-wife; those charges were dropped as well. Solanlly was a student at Salem State University studying Social Work and Early Childhood Education. She worked as a nanny and was an aspiring model. April 22, 2014: Elizabeth A. Coyne, 81, and her spouse, Donald P. Coyne, 83, of Weymouth were found dead from a murder suicide in her home. The Norfolk District Attorney’s Office reported that the injuries were “consistent with gunshot wounds.” Family and police say that there was no history of domestic violence. May 3, 2014: Edward J. Dill, 36 of Brockton was allegedly killed by vehicular homicide by his wife’s stalker, Dana Waller, 35. Prior altercations between Dill and Waller were mentioned in media reports. Waller was charged with manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating with a suspended license. He was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail. May 7, 2014: Andrew Wagner, 31, of Worcester was killed by a single stab wound to the neck allegedly by girlfriend Stephanie Fernandes, 31. Around 11pm on the night of the incident, police responded to a call reporting a domestic dispute. Fernandes claimed she was acting in self-defense, and denies manslaughter charges. Fernandes was arrested in 2006 for breaking into an ex-boyfriends home. Wagner was a Connecticut corrections officer. Fernandes was ordered to complete a 20 day psychiatric evaluation before proceeding with arraignment. May 16, 2014: Florence Beaulieu, 37, of Brockton and a mother of four, was found slain in her home by her daughters around 3 p.m., just two days after withdrawing a restraining order against her estranged husband, Jean-Michael Beaulieu, 42. She had filed for divorce from him on April 14. Her children and family members say that the 15 year marriage was abusive. Family members say he would “beat her up” and scare her by trying to kill her with voodoo whenever she tried to contact them. Jean-Michael Beaulieu was arrested at the Canadian border on May 28. Originally arrested on three counts of violating a restraining order and being a fugitive of justice, Beaulieu was later arraigned and charged with murder. Florence was a certified nursing assistant at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton where she was “highly respected” by her colleagues. June 11, 2014: Patricia Langley, 52, of Rockland was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, Richard Langley, 56, in their home. Langley allegedly confronted his wife regarding text messages on the victim’s phone with another man and accused her of having an affair. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Langley sitting on his porch, smoking a cigarette and showing no remorse. He allegedly kicked her and yelled “die” while being taken away from the scene by police. Patricia worked at the local elementary school with special needs children. October 4 (or 5), 2014, Ramonita Colon, 58, of Springfield, was allegedly shot to death by her husband Cristobal Gonzalez, who then committed suicide. The incident took place in their home. Their daughter contacted police to conduct a well-being check after not being able to reach them. November 8, 2014: Audilia Daveiga, 33, of Dorchester was allegedly shot to death in her home by her Paulo Rosa, 30. After a statewide manhunt, Rosa was found near the Rehoboth-Swansea line dead from an apparent suicide. Daveiga and Rosa leave two young boys, a 5 year old who they had together and a 9 year old who is a son of Rosa’s from a previous relationship. One of the boys was at the scene. December 20, 2014: Tanya Nichols, 51, of Marblehead, was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, John Devine, 28. According to the medical examiner, Nichols died from blunt force trauma to the head which is consistent with Devine’s account that he had thrown a table at her. Roommates and family say there was a history of abuse and reported that Devine had previously threatened to kill Nichols. Devine was charged with first-degree murder. December 31, 2014: Gloria Resto, 42, of Waltham, was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband of Julio Resto, 51, in their home. The couple had been married for two years and lived with Gloria’s two boys. The media reported that after a fight the day after Christmas, Gloria stayed at her sister’s house and then asked Julio to move out. According to police, he also called her sister to say he was going to kill himself. He has a history of attempted suicide. After stabbing her and unsuccessfully trying to kill himself, Julio drove himself to the police station and was arrested. He was arraigned and charged with first-degree murder and seven counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. Domestic Violence Perpetrator Deaths February 18, 2014: Eddie Bonafe, 54 of West Springfield committed suicide after a four-hour long standoff with police outside of Baystate Medical Center. Bonafe shot his wife in the head on Piper Road in West Springfield and then proceeded to drive around for 30 minutes before finally bringing her to the emergency room, where he did not get out of the car. A former coworker of Bonafe’s wife remembers her telling him that her husband was jealous. Records show he was arrested 12 times between 1986 and 2010, and he was charged with assault in 2007. Bonafe’s wife survived the attack. April 5, 2014: Remis Andrews 38 of Boston was shot in his sister’s kitchen by officers responding to a domestic violence call. Andrews’ girlfriend called the police after he hit her, although he denied these claims. Andrews’ sister states that he suffers from bipolar disorder, but was not on any medication for it at the time of the event. When police entered the house, Andrews was in the kitchen and his children were in the living room. Andrews picked up a knife off the counter and threated police with it, at which time he was shot. His previous girlfriend filed for a restraining order in October of 2011 citing that she was afraid of Andrews, the order was later dropped. May 15, 2014: Nicholas Foster, 29 of Salisbury was shot to death by police after attempting to murder his wife and a man inside his house. It is believed that he was jealous of the man, which is what caused him to stab them both. Foster fled the scene in his vehicle, which he then smashed into a marked police cruiser. After getting out of the vehicle, Foster pulled out a machete and a knife. After being told by police to drop the weapons and refusing, the police opened fire on him and killed him. Neighbors who witnessed the incident said police had no choice and were acting in self-defense. July 22, 2014: Bruce Brissette Jr., 41, committed suicide after attempting to shoot his way into his estranged wife’s home. After Brissette’s wife filed a restraining order against him in January, which expired in April, police confiscated his firearm permit and his guns. Police were unaware of the unregistered gun a deceased family member had left to him, which he used in this incident. Upon hearing the approaching sirens, Brissette committed suicide. His estranged wife hid in a corner bedroom with their two sons and niece. They were not physically injured. July 31, 2014: Emmanuel Jeudi, 29, was killed by his former girlfriend, 26, in self-defense. She was a mother of two daughters, age 4 and 2; the younger one was Jeudi’s child. Both children were in the house the night of the attack. Jeudi had a long history of violence including a 2006 gun conviction and a 2011 drug possession and multiple second offense charges of carrying a firearm without a license in 2011. In February 2013, he was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, and assault and battery against the domestic violence victim. A week after taking out a restraining order against him, the young woman requested that the restraining order be dropped. In a news article, she explained that “she needed his help taking their children to school in the morning so she can go to work.” Neighbors reported hearing frequent verbal and physical fight and that she asked them not to let him into the building because she was terrified of him. According to her, he threatened to take their child away and physically assaulted and threatened to kill her. She grabbed a knife in self-defense and he taunted her before charging at her. She attempted CPR and called 911.
