“Earth’s Changing Atmosphere” Vocabulary Pictionary: Textbook Chapter 1, Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 Name Period Atmosphere Altitude Ultraviolet radiation Particulate Density Infrared radiation Fossil fuel Water cycle Radiation Greenhouse effect Smog Conduction Greenhouse gas Clean Air Act Convection Ozone Air pollution Global Warming Vocabulary Pictionary Instructions: Some say that a picture is worth a thousand words. That is why we will be making and using a Vocabulary Pictionary instead of just writing word definitions. The plan is simple: A. On your computer: 1. Copy the term to be defined along with an appropriate definition. An appropriate definition describes the term as it is being used in the current unit. (The definitions can be found in the readings of the text, the glossary at the back of the textbook, in the classroom student dictionaries.) Please DO NOT use online dictionaries - many tend to give definitions that complicate the average 7th grade student’s understanding. 2. Go to a site (such as Google Images or Clipart) and type in your vocab term. Find a picture that appropriately has something to do with the term as used in the unit or class discussions. A picture of a Dairy Queen “blizzard” is not appropriate for the weather term “blizzard!” 3. Copy the chosen picture and paste it with the vocab term and definition. Please put several terms, definitions, and pictures on a single page. The only restriction on size is when a picture or print is too small to read or see details. You are encouraged to use both sides of the paper. 4. Make a cover for your Pictionary that includes the following information: 1.) topic; name of the Unit Chapter, 2.) first and last name, 3.) class period. 5. After completing all the definitions and pictures print and put the pages into a booklet form. * *Printed Pictionaries DO NOT need to be in color!!! 6. Turn in your completed Vocabulary Pictionary for a grade . 7. Grading Rubric: total points based on number of terms. 18 terms = 1 point for each term and appropriate definition and 1 point for each appropriate picture. Correct cover information = 1 point: 37 total points. **Students in need of printing or computer time can make special arrangements with Mr. Sichak. Students can get computer time during lunch, CSI time, or after school Think Tank Tuesday. Not having a computer, internet, or printer will not be an excuse for incomplete Pictionaries. I will find a way for all students to get this assignment done. I need to know about computer/printer issues when the assignment is given. Please do not ask me to work miracles on the due date! If you have a computer/internet, students can e-mail me or save on a flash drive and I will do their printing in school. (Using a powerpoint looks great but can be overwhelming for your, or my, printer cartridges.
