We are very pleased to announce that Ysgol T. Gwynn Jones has been named as
a ‘Pioneer School’ for development of the new Curriculum in Wales. This is a
hugely exciting new venture for the school. More information will follow.
Nursery -
Our topic for the next half term is ‘Glow and Glitter’ where we will be
making all sorts of exciting art work, investigating shiny objects, sorting
things into various categories and of course Christmas and all the fun
activities that involves.
Reception - Our topic this half term in Reception is called ‘Glow and Glitter’ which
has a creative focus. We will be looking at the story of Guy Fawkes,
Bonfire night and space. In our language sessions we will be continuing
with phonics and learning all about non-chronological reports. We will be
focusing on space facts for this. In maths we will be focusing on our
numbers and number skills, using our ICT skills to help us complete
challenges. In Welsh we will be continuing with Fflic a Fflac. This term
we will be very busy and we are looking forward to learning all our songs
for Christmas.
Year 1 Our topic for this half term is ‘Remember, Remember’ with a history
focus. We will be starting our topic by looking at our family trees and
what we were like as babies. We will then look at Bonfire night,
Remembrance Day and famous Victorians such as Florence Nightingale.
In literacy we will be working towards writing a non-chronological report.
In maths we will be continuing with our number work and looking at
money. We will be continuing with Fflic a Fflac in Welsh and looking at
the post office. This term will be very busy as we will be learning songs
for Christmas and doing lots of Christmas craft.
Year 2 –
Our topic in Year 2 is called ‘Remember, Remember’. It is a history
themed topic. We will be studying Guy Fawkes and the gun powder plot,
Remembrance Day and the Great fire of London. We will also be looking
at important Christians, William Morgan, Florence Nightingale and Mary
Jones. This will include a visit to St. Asaph Cathedral. In literacy we
will be working on the past tense of verbs and learning how to write nonchronological reports. In maths we will be learning our 10 and 2
timestable.
PTO
The safety of all children is paramount at Ysgol T. Gwynn Jones. The children have
daily access to computers, iPads and the internet within the school day and the
teaching of e-safety has become a priority in our teaching of ICT within the school.
To help yourself to become more familiar with e-safety and how you can help to
educate your child at home we recommend that you visit the website
https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk and register an account where you can read about the
dangers on the internet at this time and access the resources to help your child
understand them. This will help to re-enforce the work we are doing in school to do
with e-safety.
When your child is absent from school, please contact school as soon as possible on
the first day of absence. The school phone number is 01492 516 594.
