GMC Cross Country Ready to Launch 2014 Season
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Military College cross country program will begin the 2014 regular
season this Saturday in Valdosta, Ga., as the Bulldogs compete in the Valdosta State University
Cross Country Challenge.
The 2014 season will mark the second season under head coach Simeco Vinson after GMC started a
cross country program in the fall of 2013.
Last season, GMC had two runners compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
championships as David Melton finished 12th in the 8K men’s race (28:58) and Sarah Williams was 40th in
the women’s 5K race (23:53).
So the goal this year for GMC to compete at the national level as a team, although the Bulldogs will be
young with only one sophomore on the roster heading to Valdosta for the season-opener.
Team captain Ryan President, the only sophomore on the men’s squad from Kennesaw, Ga., has great
decision-making and leadership skills, according to Vinson.
Chauncei Davis, a freshman from Milledgeville, comes in as a highly-recruited runner who already has
run times to compete at the front of many upcoming meets.
Dakota Hayden, a freshman from Griffin, Ga., has been impressive with fast times in 800-meter training.
A total of 14 runners are on the roster for the 2014 season, which features four meets that will be
followed the GCAA/Region 17 championship on October 25 and NJCAA championship on November 8.
With four individuals listed on the preseason women’s roster, GMC will not have enough runners to
score as a team to start the season.
But these four freshman runners – JoeWanna Patterson of Stockbridge, Ga.; Nina Skinner of Palmetto,
Fla.; Jassmine Stevens of Wilson, N.C.; and Tiara Bethea of Fairburn, Ga. – will be able to compete
individually.
