2014-2015 Team Rules and Guidelines
1. The coaches will do their best to get all players into every game. However, playing time is not
guaranteed. The coaching staff will determine who plays based on attitude, work ethic, and
performance in games and at practice.
2. Be on time. Players are required to be at any team function at least 10 minutes prior to the
scheduled starting time. Players should be dressed and ready to begin by the time that function
(game, practice, etc.) is to begin. It is the responsibility of the player and his parents to arrange
transportation to and from team functions.
3. Attendance to practice and games is mandatory. If a player is sick, he is to notify one of the
coaches prior to practice or it will be considered an unexcused absence. Unexcused absence policy
is as follows:
1st offense:
Warning and/or Conditioning (at coach’s discretion)
2nd offense:
Suspension of one game and conditioning
3rd offense:
Dismissal from team
4. Injured players are to make every attempt to attend practice.
5. Players are to keep themselves well groomed. Maintain a clean and neat appearance at all times.
No hats or earrings during team functions.
6. Players are to be properly dressed for practice. (Practice jersey, shorts, sneakers)
7. During the winter, players are to arrive to practices, games, and all team functions dressed properly
for the weather conditions. Players are encourages to wear winter hats and coats. Players should
not arrive in shorts.
8. Shoes purchased through the team are to be worn only during practice and games. This is done to
ensure that they will last the entire season. After the season, players may wear them as they wish.
9. Questioning of any coach will not be tolerated. There is a purpose for why things are done at
practice and/or in games.
10. A zero tolerance policy will be in effect for any illegal drug usage or alcohol consumption.
11. Injuries should be brought to the attention of coaches immediately. Injured players will be referred
to the Bellwood-Antis School District trainer.
Parents: Please go over the attached information on Concussions in Youth Sports with your son.
Game Rules:
1. All players will wear the Bellwood-Antis basketball polo to all away games, unless otherwise
designated by the coaching staff. These polos are to be tucked in at all times and worn with khaki
pants or dress slacks. No jeans or shorts.
2. Players must understand that they are representatives of our school district, athletic department, and
basketball program and are expected to act accordingly. They will show respect towards opposing
players, coaches, and fans.
2. Jerseys must be tucked in at all times.
3. No player is permitted to question a call or show disgust towards any official. The coaches will
defend the players and deal with officials. If a player does this, they will be immediately removed
from the game until the coaching staff decides otherwise – NO EXCEPTIONS!
4. Misconduct on the bench will not be tolerated. Players will limit conversation and follow the game.
Any player may be inserted into the game at any time, and is expected to know what is going on.
5. Players on the 9th grade team must sit behind the bench during the 7th and 8th grade games. 7th
and 8th grade team members will do the same during the 9th grade games and remain for the
duration of the game. This rule applies to both home and away games.
6. Players removed from the game will communicate with their substitute and sit next to the coach for
instruction.
7. All players will run to the bench for time-outs. Time is very precious in these situations and we will
need as much time as provided to communicate instructions, diagram plays, or change game
strategy
8. Players will ride to and from games on the team bus. Special permission may be granted in some
cases by following Bellwood Antis School District protocol. Players may not ride home with any other
person other than a parent or guardian.
The coaching staff of the Bellwood-Antis Junior High Basketball Program will be more than
