Mathematics Department Year 11H II Scheme of Work Main text book – Edexcel Mathematics A Linear Higher (Pearson) with its supporting worksheets for homework. In the Spring term a revision /practice booked is also loaned to pupils. The text book is on loan to pupils. Pupils must own a full Maths set and scientific calculator which should be brought to each lesson. This equipment can be provided for pupils if they require it for a charge. The 11H II class is the second of three set ability groups. Pupils are set after the summer test of Year 10. Topics are taught from the GCSE Higher Tier syllabus which was started in year 10. The course is completed at the end of the spring term. Teachers differentiate (upwards & downwards) to support the stronger/weaker pupils. Differentiation is supported by extension work in text books and work sheets. Number, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, are the main assessment areas and these are visited once or twice a term. Within these areas there will be problem solving, functional skills and tasks requiring mental methods and the use of IT. Homework is given twice a week. Autumn Term Number First half term: Consolidation work with Factors, Multiples, Indices, 4 Rules ,Fractions, Decimal, Standard From Second half term: Ratio & Proportion, Direct/Inverse Proportion Algebra: First half term: Methods for Factorising, Solving Quadratic Equations Second half term: Graphs of Functions (Linear & other graphs) Inequalities and Regions, Geometry First half term: Angle properties (proof & problem-solving), Congruence, Similarity (Ratios in Areas & Volumes) Second half term: Pythagoras’ Theorem & Trigonometry (Sine and Cosine rules), Areas & Volumes Statistics Frist half term: Sampling Methods, Statistical Diagrams Second half term: Problem-solving with Statistical Diagrams Spring Term The GCSE syllabus is completed and the GCSE mock exam takes place this term. First half term: Problem-solving in Number, Algebra, Geometry. Statistics (Probability and tree diagrams) Second half term: Consolidation and Revision in Number, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics Summer Term The national GCSE examination takes place this term. There is also a study leave period before which, Mathematics practice and exam-type papers will be distributed in class for the last revision sessions.
