ART, DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY FACULTY
Teacher and Co-ordinator of ART with management responsibility TLR 2b
The Faculty has a staff of 10 specialist teachers working as a team to put into
practice the philosophy of the Faculty, which includes teaching the National
Curriculum foundation subjects of Art & Design and Design & Technology. The
Faculty’s management structure comprises a Director of Learning with four Assistant
Directors of Learning to oversee curricula and organisation. The Faculty is ably
supported by 3 technicians.
The College has excellent facilities and provides workshop and studio
accommodation for Art, Ceramics, Textiles, Graphic Design, Product Design (Wood,
Metal, Plastics Electronics, Systems and Control) and Food Technology. The
Faculty underwent a half million pound refurbishment programme in 2000 to bring
together all Art, Design and Technology subjects into one purpose-built area with its
own gallery.
In The City of Leicester College, Art, Design and Technology are seen as important
areas of study for all pupils up to the age of 16. Beyond this, Advanced Level
courses in Fine Art, Graphic Design, Product Design and Textiles have enabled
many pupils to gain places on Foundation Courses or direct entry to other courses in
higher education.
In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils are organised into mixed ability groups of up to 20 and are
taught Art for one hour per week and Design and Technology for two hours per
week. In years 10 and 11 pupils opt to follow GCSE course in Design and
Technology and may choose from, Resistant Materials Technology, Product Design,
Textiles Technology and Food Technology. Pupils may also choose to study the
OCR GCSE suite of courses in Art and Design.
We are seeking to appoint a highly committed and experienced teacher with a vision
for developing Art education in the School, who will be able to teach Art from Year 7
to Advanced level. An ability to teach and to integrate ICT into all aspects of the work
is essential. The post carries with it a responsibility allowance (TLR2b) and would
suit someone looking for experience in curriculum leadership and people
management and will provide opportunities for substantial professional development.
Applicants invited for interview will need to bring with them a portfolio containing a
range of pupils’ work, together with examples of their teaching materials. During their
interview, applicants will have the opportunity to discuss, amongst other things, their
ideas on curricula, practical teaching, administration and organisation. In addition
applicants will be required to prepare and teach a short session during the day.
