Back to the nature: ladybirds instead of pesticides Britsh vegetables and fruits dealers are looking for “greener” methods for getting rid of the pests who are destroying their cultures. The eco solution is represented by predatory insects such as ladybirds and some hornet species. The tendency grew after the European Union has taken the initiative to forbid several chemical substances which are thought to have harmful effects against human body. The dealers have started to use natural pest killers, by buying ladybug larvaes and predatory hornets, which eat a huge number of pest insects. Thereby, tomatoes, peppers and even strawberries are grown without using the harmful pesticides, due to the fact that the hornets and ladybirds introduced into greenhouses have successfully replaced the formal pest killing methods. In Great Britain there are already some companies which takes care of growing and selling these small “biological weapons”, which maintain the natural balance of the insect populations in greenhouses and gardens.
