Fares and Tickets
Fares and ticket systems are different on the various trains, buses and ferries operating in the region.
Buses
Passengers pay a fare when they enter the bus. When you are approaching the stop where you want to get off, pull the cord or press the button that is
located near each seat.
Fares on Newcastle Buses are charged on a time-based system. You can pay for travel for one hour, four hours or all day. Unlimited bus transfers are
available during the time period paid for.
Fares on private buses are charged under the distance-based MyZone system: you pay for how far you are going to travel.
You can also buy tickets in advance with considerable discounts. The Newcastle Buses TimeTen ticket is the equivalent of ten 1-hour tickets. MyBus
TravelTen tickets offer ten rides on private buses for a set distance. Selected MyMulti tickets are also available for combined travel on Newcastle Buses
and private buses along with ferries and trains.
To find your nearest ticket outlet, phone 131500 or visit www.131500.info.
Trains
CityRail fares are charged based on the distance travelled. You can buy single trip tickets, return tickets and off-peak return tickets. Return tickets are
valid until 4.00am the next day. Off-peak tickets are valid from 9.00am on weekdays and all day at weekends.
You buy CityRail tickets at staffed railway stations or from ticket vending machines on the platform. Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and yearly
tickets are also available.
The closest train station to Charlestown by connecting bus is Cardiff station.
Combined Train, Bus and Ferry TravelPass Tickets*
Combined Train, Bus and Ferry TravelPass Tickets are also available and allow unlimited travel on CityRail trains, Newcastle Buses and Newcastle
Ferries within defined areas. See map above.
Family Tickets* are available when families travel together.
Concession Fares
Children between their 4th and 16th birthdays travel at half-fare. Children under four travel free.
Pensioners, seniors and tertiary students can travel at half fare, but they must have a valid concession authority card with them.
