Executive Producer – Job Description Introduction Charles Hazlewood, with the British Paraorchestra, is looking to establish a creative hub in Bristol with the intention of creating new and exciting cultural collaborations involving diverse sections of the community in the South West. This new creative hub will build on existing tried and tested projects in Charles’ musical armoury. It will push creative boundaries further, and across artforms, by working with existing cultural organisations and groups in Bristol. Projects will be developed and performed in Bristol, before going further afield in the South West, the UK and abroad. The goal is to create a viable, self-sustaining, cultural enterprise. With the support of Art Council England South West, The Paraorchestra and Friends are now ready to establish a base in Bristol and appoint an Executive Producer to work with Charles Hazlewood. This offers an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced Executive Producer to play a key role in the establishment and development of a new organisation, based in Bristol, but with ambitious artistic plans that will be nurtured in the South West but will have national and international reach. We are happy to consider candidates on either a freelance or short-term contract basis and anticipate the role becoming permanent at some stage. Role Description The Executive Producer will be the first appointment, reporting to Charles Hazlewood, Artistic Director. The key areas of responsibility are outlined below. Producing and Touring To produce the work of The Paraorchestra and Friends To identify, advise on and pursue producing and co-producing opportunities To assess the feasibility of potential projects To ensure effective relationships with venues, directors, producers and promoters To organise tour booking of each project and negotiate fees Organisation Development 1 To be responsible for the establishment of The Paraorchestra and Friends in its Bristol base To maintain existing and nurture new relationships with Bristol and SW based arts organisations To formulate plans and policy documents for the board of trustees To hold regular meetings with the Artistic Director to ensure effective communications, decision making and consistent operation of policy Human Resources To ensure that appropriate HR policies are in place and meet current statutory legislation To comply with and ensure operation of the company’s policies specifically: o Health and Safety o Chlldren, Young People, and Vulnerable Adults Protection o Equal Opportunities o Diversity action plan To monitor the performance of freelance staff To issue contracts to all relevant staff Fundraising To work with the Artistic Director and freelance fundraising consultant(s) to submit appropriate applications and requests for funding To be a central point of contact for potential and existing funders To ensure that requested documents and evaluation reports are submitted to funders Marketing and Audience Development To contribute to the marketing strategies of the organisation To approve the production of flyers and posters Finance To be responsible to the board of trustees for the overall financial management of the organization, including setting budgets and maintaining an overview of the long term situation To oversee the work of the bookkeeper To oversee the payment of invoices, paying in monies and petty cash To allocate incoming invoices Administration To ensure the daily smooth running of the office To implement and maintain systems of office management To act as Company Secretary To organise all board meetings, ensuring distribution of agenda and minutes and all communications with the board Person Specification 2 Essential Experience of producing and co-producing in music, festivals and/or theatre Proven experience of arts management Experience of financial management, budgeting, financial systems and reporting Excellent written and oral communications skills Excellent project management skills and experience The ability to work under pressure and on own initiative and to prioritise workload Experience of working with multiple stakeholders Strong office administration skills including use of word and excel Desirable An understanding of employment law and relevant policies including health and safety, equal opportunities, child protection and diversity Experience of arts marketing Experience in supporting fundraising Terms and Conditions Salary/fees: c £40,000 per annum pro-rata or fee rate equivalent Hours: Full-time based on 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, the post holder will be expected to work some evenings/weekends if necessary to fulfill the role.
