DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 7433 PAY GRADE: 428 CLASS TITLE: DIAGNOSTIC VETERINARIAN MANAGER - SES ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work directing the operations of a field diagnostic laboratory or laboratory section concerned with veterinary virology, pathology, parasitology, bacteriology, or avian diseases; or coordinating statewide field diagnostic evaluations and/or veterinary assessments of animal disease infestations and the development of control and prevention methods. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Directs the activities of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory staff. Conducts investigations and studies in the field of veterinary virology, pathology, parasitology, bacteriology, or avian diseases. Conducts necropsy examinations. Performs diagnostic tests. Examines microscopic tissue sections to determine what pathological process, if any, may exist. Directs activities of field veterinarian staff engaged in diagnostic field work. Coordinates the study of special animal disease problems. Provides consultation to practicing veterinarians. Monitors inventory and purchases supplies and equipment. Prepares written reports of examined specimens. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of animal diseases, their symptoms and treatment. Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology and pathology. Skill in the use of veterinary laboratory instruments and equipment.
