2null13 - Vuokatti, Finland
Hello!
The World Championships in orienteering, situated in Vuokatti, Finland, are only less than a month
away, and so is the 2null13 Camp!
As we mentioned earlier, we did not get financial support from the European Union, concerning the
arrangements of the camp, and thus the camp will proceed according to the original programme and
duration. The camp will begin on Wednesday, July 10th, and end on Sunday, July 14th.
The camp programme is as follows (any changes are still possible)
The camp will start by dinner on Wednesday, July 10th, at 16:00. The actual start-up info will be held
after the dinner at 18. In the evening we will hike together to Vuokatinvaara, and the hike will mark
the beginning of a group work activity, which will be explained later on in this briefing.
Participant countries have time for their own programme on Thursday and Friday. The point is that
each country hosts an event, in which there could be presentations of exercises and sports typical for
that country, for instance. The duration of the event could be about an hour.
Thursday afternoon is reserved for lectures. Each country should set up a lecturer, who could be a
professional orienteer or orienteering coach from the same country. The duration of the lecture is 20
minutes per country, followed by a short period for conversation. Representatives of the media are
free to come and visit the camp after these lectures.
On Friday afternoon we will watch the World Championships Middle Finals on the competition arena the relay competitions are held on Saturday. The group work activities are to be presented on Friday
evening.
During the free time it is made possible to participate in additional events of the WOC2013 (some
include additional fees that are not included in the price of the camp. For more information, click
here.)
A certain group work activity will be carried out during the camp. The subject of the activity is: "Why
is it beneficial to be an instructor?" The activity will be made little by little during the camp, and it is
presented at the end of the camp. The eventual product of the activity may be a brochure, poster or a
video. It is possible to use your own GoPro camera for a video. More information concerning the group
work activity will be delivered on the camp.
Each country will get the information about lodging details by e-mail from Katri Lilja.
Concerning the equipment necessary on the camp: We will provide lodging of hotel standards. The
weather in Finland is mostly warm in July, and it's possible to encounter temperatures exceeding +25.
On the other hand it might be considerably colder. Please take your own Emit cards if possible. Make
sure to be able to take notes. If you wish to take part to the spectator races (Kainuun Rastiviikko),
please announce your participation independently.
In Vuokatti and its surroundings the transportation will be arranged by bus. A specific bus pass is
included in the camp price. More information available here.
