ASM 2015 CONTEST SCHEDULE

Three Works-In-Progress entries allowed at each meeting (2 points per WIP entry)

Five entries allowed per modeler at Special Contests (Non-points)

Number of entries in a Sponsored Contest is up to the contest host

State Fair contest entries earns 50 points per model/ 25 pts for display - max of 3 models.

January 9th – SPECIAL CONTEST – REAL SPACE/SCIENCE/SCI-FI/FANTASY (Non-Points).

Annual “Moe Blalters” special contest In honor of our longtime ASM Just Staff and Sci-Fi & Fantasy enthusiasts, Joe Walters and Mike Blohm, contest open to any subject, any scale, within theme. Examples include a Mercury space capsule, dinosaur, X-Wing Fighter or fantasy figure. Be creative!

Sponsored Contest: “Fanta-stiorical” – Josh Pals & Patrick Dick – Sci-Fi subjects in historical markings: a Star-Wars X-Wing in

Jolly Rogers USN markings or a real subject in Sci-Fi markings such as an F-15 in Rouge Squadron markings. Any scale.

February 6th - ASM Swap Meet – No contest. Bring your surplus kits to sell or swap!

Open to any kit, any subject, any scale.

April 3rd – SPECIAL CONTEST - “April Fools ” (Non-Points )- Any subject or scale that depicts a “What If”, “Future Fantasy”, or “Never

Happened” or “Hollyweird” (Comics, Cartoons and TV/Movie). Examples might be a NASCAR A-10 or a failed Prototype like the

Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus or even a figure of a Supermodel eating fried Chicken.

May 1st – POINTS CONTEST #2 . Theme: “ May Day ”- Open to any kit, any subject, any scale. The May Day theme is any subject or scale that represents the conflict between the European Axis powers and co-belligerent Finland against the Soviet Union, Poland and other allies, which encompassed Northern, Southern and Central and Eastern Europe from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945. It has been known as the Great

Patriotic War in Russia, while in Germany it was called the Eastern Front.

POINTS CONTEST #3 .

Theme: “Rotory Wing”-

Open to any kit, any subject, any scale. The Rotary Wing theme represents any scale or subject that is has a rotor (helicopters, CV-22 gyro-copter).

Sponsored Contest: “Lockheed Martin” – Patrick Dick . Any Lockheed Martin subject or scale.

July 10th – SPECIAL CONTEST – 1945 (Non-Points) Any subject or scale, friend or foe, that was recognized as a part of the year. WWII was winding down in Europe and warming up in the Pacific during 1945.

Sponsored Contest: “Adversaries” - Mike Blohm and Matt Blohm . Any subject or scale that depicts adversaries. Examples are

“Snake and Mongoose” Funny Cars, Me 109 vs. Spitfire Mk Is from Battle of Britain or even Predator vs Alien.

August 7th – Swap Meet and ASM Distressed Kit Auction – No Contest. Bring your half-builts and misfits for a fun auction to benefit the club.

September 4th – POINTS CONTEST #4 . Theme: “Trainers”- Open to any kit, any subject, any scale. The Trainers theme is any model depicting a subject that was used during training. This could include military or civilian aircraft, the ’64 Buick you learned to drive in, the USCGC

Eagle (WIX-327), or any number of armor pieces.

Sponsored Contest: “It’s all Greek to Me” - Gil De La Plain’s” Any Greek military subject or any Greek mythological subject. It could be a grungy A7 from the Hellenic Air Force, a spitfire or 109 that served in Greece, a tank (allied or axis) that served in the ground campaign, an ancient trireme, a hoplite warrior, a figure of Medusa, etc.

October 2nd

POINTS CONTEST #5. Theme:

“Nuclear Winters”

Open to any kit, any subject, any scale that represents The Cold War.

Limited to the years 1947-1991, it represents the state of political and military tension after World War II between powers in the Western Bloc

(the United States, its NATO allies and others) and powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its allies in the Warsaw Pact). This excludes items specific to other conflicts during that time (Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan). If considered “Dual Use”, subject has to show Cold

War relevance (B-52 for example).

“Hawker Aircraft” – John Tate

- Best aircraft designed or manufactured by Hawker, from 1920 to 1963. This includes some of the greatest fighter aircraft ever designed, such as the Fury biplane, Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest, Sea Fury and

Hunter. Awards by skill level and scale depending on turnout.

Any subject, any scale that depicts the Steampunk subgenre of science fiction and fantasy that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. This is a great o pportunity to use all the extra parts from kits that are in the “spares” box.
