RSVP - Field Instructor Orientation Fall - 2015 The Orientation for Field Instructors for the Fall 2015 Term will occur on Thursday, September 3, 2015, in the Cathedral of Learning Room 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration and a Continental Breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. The purpose of this program is to provide all field instructors, but particularly new field instructors, with practical information related to the responsibilities of instructing a social work student in field placement. The morning session will include “NEWS” in the School of Social Work which includes a review of the CSWE competencies, the field instructor role, a “walk through” the term highlighting dates, forms, the role of supervision, and relevant policies. The afternoon session will be exclusively devoted to a discussion about the new field curriculum that is competency based- which will include workshops involving the BASW, Foundation and Concentration field learning plans and evaluations. Examples and tools for use by the field instructor will be presented. Six (6) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded for participation in this all-day orientation and CEU registration forms will be available. The School of Social Work will also be offering Seminars in Field Instruction that will occur on three (3) mornings during the Fall and Spring Terms. A separate RSVP form will be sent to you with further information regarding these seminars. There is no cost for the orientation or trainings; handouts and reading materials will be provided. The SIFI series will give new field instructors not only an opportunity to learn what is required by the School of Social Work to be a field instructor but also prepare the field instructor to make the jump from practitioner to supervisor to teacher. It is important for new field instructors to assist the student in integrating and applying the concepts, principles and theories learned in the classroom to a real world setting. For the experienced field instructor, the SIFI series will provide you the opportunity to refresh your skills and learn what's new in field instruction. All field instructors will become knowledgeable regarding competency based field placements.
