The Ring
Mark and Stacy was such a good couple. They laughed together, sang together, and went
everywhere together. Mark wanted to make the big move. He wanted to propose to Stacy to be
his wife. But, there was a problem, Mark was poor. Mark grew up in a small family, his father
was always miserable and his mother had no emotion. Stacy, on the other hand, had a big family
and they were also rich. Mark thought about asking her family if they can help him buy a ring for
Stacy, but he didn’t want them to know that he can’t take care of Stacy.
Through his desperation, Mark checked every store to look for the best and cheapest ring
to get for Stacy. Mark didn’t have any luck finding the perfect one. So, he sat home on the couch
reading a magazine. Mark notices an advertisement that says, “Old merchandise for sale come by
today and it will be for free!” Mark thought that maybe there could be the perfect ring that he
needed to propose to Stacy. He drove to the address that was on the ad and it brought him to an
old broken down shack. Mark carefully walked inside to notice an old man standing right by the
door. The old man said “Welcome sir, how may I help you?”
Mark asked if they sold any rings. The old man nodded and led Mark to the back of the
store. In the back of the store there was a row of rings on a table. The old man said, “Choose
whatever one you see.” Mark looked through the row and none of the rings are the ones he
wanted. Then, Mark turned around and noticed a glass box and inside there was a shiny ring
with a big green emerald in the middle.
He asked the old man he wanted that one. But, the old man said in a terrified voice, “NO,
I can’t sell you that one.” Mark said, “But, you said I can take whatever I can see.” Then the old
man replied, “I know I said that, but this ring isn’t just a ring.”

Mark was confused because it looked like a ring. With Mark’s clueless face, the old man
explains about the ring, “This ring is an ancient ring from Egypt; the gods used this ring on the
peasants.”
Mark interrupted, “What do you mean used?” The old man continues, “Well the gods
used the ring to make the peasants there slaves. When the peasants were wearing this ring they
forgot who they were, and became the slave of the person who put the ring on them. Mark asked,
“Does this ring still have those powers.”
The old man said, “I don’t know honestly, the ring was sent in a long time ago. Now if
you still want the ring after I told you about it. You will have to sign this contract, which states
that there will be no returns and whatever happens it can’t come back to me.” Mark believed that
the ring probably lost its powers over the years, so he decided to get the ring.
The next day Mark asked Stacy if she wanted to go to dinner, and she gladly said, “Yes!”
Stacy went to the car and waited for Mark. He quickly grabbed the ring and put it in his pocket.
They made it at the restaurant. Stacy was getting excited because it was the same restaurant that
her and Mark met. They ordered their food, talked, and were having a great time.
Throughout the whole time talking, Mark was getting nervous on whether or not if he
should use the ring. He took the ring out and looked at Stacy’s blue crystal eyes. Mark would do
anything to make her happy. So, he got on one knee, with the ring in his hand and asked Stacy
the magical words any girl would love to hear, “Will you marry me?” She was crying tears of
happiness and with a high pitched voice she said, “Yes!” Mark grabbed her hand and with his
hand shaking he put the ring on his loving girl Stacy. The emerald on the ring began to glow.
Mark thought of the worst. With everyone cheering in the restaurant and Mark nervously

shaking, he began to cry. Stacy was standing there with a big smile on her face. He grabbed
Stacy by her hand and led her to the car. They drove home and Stacy was still smiling like how
she was at the restaurant.
Mark was getting terrified, but he thought maybe she was happy because she got
proposed. As Mark was in his bed ready to go to sleep, Stacy was standing next to him still
smiling. Mark asked her, “Go to sleep Stacy.” And she replied, “Yes, Master.” She laid next to
him eyes wide open, never losing a sight on Mark. Mark knew she had become his slave and he
didn’t like it. He tried to think of a solution to bring back Stacy. Mark tried taking the ring off,
but it wouldn’t move. He tried to cut the ring off, but no damage was done. With the knife in his
hand and the ring on Stacy’s finger, Mark swiped the knife down and chopped Stacy’s finger off
with the ring.
Poor old Mark, he thought by doing that it would bring back his loving Stacy. But, all it
did was make her smile fade away. Stacy didn’t know who she was and had no emotion. Mark
lost the love of his dreams and lived a lonely miserable life.
