9th Grade Registration Checklist for 2014-2015
Registration Guides
Registration course guides for 2014-2015 are available online. Paper copies can be obtained at school, if
needed.

Completing the Registration Card:
*Use sample card on back as a guide for completing the registration card.*
 Electives:
- Choose electives to fill the remaining “Elective” spaces on the registration card.
- Students will have varying numbers of elective spaces based on their teachers’ recommendations.
- Electives must be selected from the courses listed in the registration guide that are open to 9th graders
and/or for which students meet the prerequisites. A list of all potential electives for 9th graders is
attached.
- Information about the Academies at each high school can be obtained at SLMS or on the SLMS
Counseling Department’s website
 Alternates:
- Choose THREE alternate electives in case your first-choice electives are full. Alternates are your “back
up” electives.
- Write the course names on the right side of your registration card under “Alternate #” and “Course
Name.” A course number is NOT required.
- If you fail to select alternates, alternates will be chosen for you and schedule changes will not be
allowed.
Reminders
- If your child is recommended for these courses, please be aware that they count as elective credits and
are NOT Math/English credits that count toward graduation requirements in those content areas:
Foundations of Math I, II, or III, Advanced Composition
- Parents have the right to override teachers’ recommendations; however, you are strongly encouraged to
contact your child’s teachers or counselor prior to making that decision.
- You are registering for courses for the entire 2014-2015 school year (not just one semester).
- If you do not return a registration card, teachers/counselors will complete a card for you and you will not be
allowed to change your schedule next year.
- Final registration will be completed online this year. All students will bring home a print-out of their final
online registration to be reviewed and signed by parents/guardians.
