Parent Volunteers Confidentiality Policy
At Mill O’ Forest School we encourage parents to be involved in the life of the school and
nursery. The school and pupils really benefit from the wealth of skills and time that parents
are willing to offer us on a day to day basis.
Whilst we appreciate parental support and are delighted to invite volunteers into school, it is
important to ensure confidentiality for all our pupils and their wider families. It is therefore
important that all volunteers have a clear understanding of what constitutes confidential
information and the steps that they should follow in the event of becoming aware of such
information. It is important to stress that at no point should any volunteer be exposed to
these details.
The following list shows the information that is regarded as confidential.
Medical details
Marital status of parents / Parental relationships
Parents’ employment situation
Court orders
Child Protection – where there is cause for concern, staff can pass on relevant
information following the set procedures without parental knowledge

Volunteers should not seek to access confidential records or discuss individual pupils, inside or
outside of school. If for any reason a volunteer were to learn of confidential information, it
should be brought to the attention to the Class Teacher, Depute Head Teachers or Head
Teacher. Any information would be strictly confidential and should not be disclosed to anyone
else.
It is important that volunteers or parents within the school are not left alone with a child or
group of children. This is a precaution that is taken to safeguard both the pupils and our
volunteers.
I am sure that you can appreciate that this policy exists to protect pupils, parents, carers,
families and staff. It is imperative that all those involved in working with children are clear
about issues of confidentiality. If you have any questions about this policy or individual
situations then please speak to a member of the management team.
Please sign below to show that you have read and understood the above information.
Thank you once again for giving up your time to volunteer in our school. Your support is greatly
appreciated and helps us provide high quality experiences for our pupils.
