Job purpose
You will be expected to work as both an applied and teaching specialist in the area of
lifestyle support and psychology, and will be responsible for developing and delivering
services and educational programmes.
The broad remit of the role is to contribute to the development of an environment that
supports the delivery of comprehensive educational and support services to the athlete and
student within a high performance/HEI setting.
You will predominantly deliver lifestyle support services to athletes who are part of the
TASS, Dual Career and BUCS Target programmes, coordinate the internal athlete lifestyle
support service and develop and support educational programmes that enhance the student
experience and contribute to our commercial portfolio.

There will be coordination duties associated with delivery of lifestyle support.
Career and Professional Development Activities
To contribute to the teaching and development of educational programmes, to engage in
knowledge transfer, continuous professional development, consultancy and other forms of
external engagement, as appropriate.
From time to time you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities. This will
form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these
activities.
Special conditions
You will be required to deliver on vocational and CPD programmes which may involve some
weekends and evenings. You will be required to work directly on Quality Assurance of
programmes, which at times, may involve overseeing evening and weekend delivery. You

will be required to work directly with athletes / students (through workshop delivery, 1:1s,
open days), which may involve evening and weekend delivery.
Main duties and responsibilities

To act as the applied lead for athlete lifestyle support and sport psychology in the
Training and Development team, which will include delivery on;
- The Talented Athlete Support Scheme (TASS)
- DSDR Lifestyle Support Service, including delivery on the Dual Career and BUCS
Target programme
Sport Psychology delivery will be assessed upon application, and be dependent upon
appropriate qualifications, experience and department requirements and demand.
You will be expected to engage and contribute to the delivery of TASS services through
regular inter-disciplinary meetings and lead the quality assurance of the TASS
programme in the field of lifestyle support.
As part of the TASS team, you will work closely with the TASS co-ordinator to
strategically lead and deliver lifestyle services as part of TASS, and you will coordinate
the DSDR Lifestyle Support Service.
You will also support the wider delivery and development of an effective Dual Carer
Programme through your experience and specialist knowledge, working with the ASO
and wider T&D team to provide a leading service in University sport.

You will be required to act as the Programme Leader and develop and deliver the
portfolio of TALS and associated specialist programmes in the T&D team.
Teaching duties will include the following:
- production of schemes of work, unit outlines, unit/course reviews and
maintenance of unit files
- course planning and annual course reviews
- lesson planning and evaluation, the production of resources, the organisation
of guest lecturers and the introduction of innovative features to the teaching
programme i.e.; e-learning
- setting and marking of examinations and coursework
- contributing to/chairing course team meetings, taking part in teaching team
activities (Quality Committees, Teaching team meetings, peer observations,
external verifiers visits, subject reviews and other teaching inspections)
- contribute to recruitment through University Open Days
- acquiring and developing skills in Distance and Open Learning
- delivery of courses at weekends, evenings and/or part of an Easter and/or
Summer School programme.
- work directly with the Programmes Co-ordinator to provide effective
administration of the programmes.
- take responsibility for commercial and marketing activities related to TALS and
associated programmes.
- develop relationships and engage key external and internal partners in the
delivery of TALS and associated programmes, and take responsibility for
programme enrichment and development.
- monitor and evaluate the programme through internal budgetary reporting.

There are financial indicators of success that will be required to be met, and innovative
methods of generating income through education in your specialist area is expected.

Dependent on qualifications and experience you may be required to deliver on
introductory academic programmes as part of the service delivery relationship with the
University and Department for Health.
If applicable, as unit convenor you will lead the unit in line with University quality
assurance procedures. Programme management responsibilities may include:
recruitment and admissions, quality assurance, assessment and moderation,
programme planning, timetabling and resource planning, student advice and guidance.
Teaching duties on unit as noted in item 2.

Engage with external partners (e.g. TASS, UKSport, 1st4 Sport, NGBs, Skills Active) to
pursue new programme opportunities and secure additional funding. Inform line
manager of funding gaps, opportunities, and indirect/hidden DSDR costs of the
programmes.
Take responsibility for project leading the development of higher qualifications (level 4
and 5) in the area of TALS, athlete lifestyle support, counselling and psychological
support.
Build and develop relationships with key academic departments, and industry bodies
working towards qualification submission and approval.

Engage in developmental activities which are either driven by widening participation,
income generation and / or profile / reputational. Such as:
- delivery of services to the student sports clubs and the Sports Association
- provide support to students and staff programmes
- lead in development of social media content in subject expertise

You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as
reasonably required by your line manager. Dependent on qualifications and experience
these may include:
 Attendance at recruitment events, University and department open days
 Preparation and delivery of workshops and/or short courses on a defined,
specific and specialist subject. This would include preparing teaching materials,
communicating subject matter and encouraging debate to develop rational
thinking.
 Mentoring, tutoring and associated communication with students / athletes.
