To inform all high school principals and assistant principals about the Edgenuity Algebra I, Virtual Tutor
and Academic Support Progress Monitoring recommendations for high schools to address requirements
of House Bill HB)7069.

The Department of Mathematics is informing all high school principals and assistant principals about
the Edgenuity Algebra I, Virtual Tutor (VT) and Academic Support Progress Monitoring
recommendations for high schools to address requirements of House Bill (HB) 7069.
o As per HB 7069 008.25, Florida Statute:
a)
Each student must participate in the statewide, standardized assessment program
required by s. 1008.22. Each student who does not achieve a Level 3 or above on
the statewide, standardized English Language Arts assessment, or the Algebra I
EOC assessment must be evaluated to determine the nature of the student’s
difficulty, the areas of academic need, and strategies for providing academic supports
to improve the student’s performance.
b) In M-DCPS, a student who is not meeting the school district or state requirements for
satisfactory performance in English Language Arts and mathematics must be
covered by one of the following plans:

1.
A federally required student plan such as an individual education plan (IEP);
2.
A school wide system of progress monitoring for all students, except a
student who scores level 4 or above on the English Language Arts and
mathematics assessment may be exempted from participation by the
principal.
The attached Edgenuity Virtual Tutor (VT) Progress Monitoring and Academic Support Plan will assist
schools in meeting the aforementioned requirements in the area of mathematics. In the absence of
FSA results, schools should use the guidelines found in the Target Students and Registration column
of the plan to assist in priortizing students to participate in the Virtual Tutor Progress Monitoring
process.

The Edgenuity Virtual Tutor (VT) Program will automatically generate personalized learning paths
through the course content for prioritizing and remediating students’ areas of deficiency. If additional
prerequisite skill support is needed beyond the personalized learning paths, customized Edgenuity
Academic Support Courses and supplemental Academic Support resources are available in the
Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 Pacing Guides which will allow teachers the opportunity to
provide remediation activities on the prerequisite standards needed to master applicable course
standards.
