Shaw Construction Co is seeking a qualified individual with a strong knowledge of Concrete Estimating to join our Concrete Division team. George J Shaw Construction is seeking an individual with a strong structural concrete estimating background, but would entertain an individual with general concrete estimating experience. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES 1. Follows standard George J. Shaw Construction procedures, policies, and standard forms to accomplish the following: 2. Attends and actively participates at weekly estimating meetings 3. Actively searches for project leads though many resources for discussions at the weekly estimating meeting 4. Able to download, organize, and process electronic documents 5. Able to perform accurate quantity takeoff utilizing Plan Swift or similar on-screen takeoff 6. Able to learn and estimate projects using Microsoft EXCEL spreadsheets developed by George J Shaw Co 7. Able to collaborate with estimating team members - Earthwork, Structural, and Flatwork Division estimators. 8. Able to collaborate with project management and field operations during the project handoff period and be able to explain clearly labor production, material procurement, and means and methods used in generating estimate. 9. Able to review and approve contracts to ensure that inclusions, clarifications, and exclusions in the proposal mirror the written contract. 10. Working with our project team and management to negotiate, address, or price items in order to produce a mutually acceptable contract price and scope with our customers. 11. Able to develop a cost control on an EXCEL spreadsheet developed by George J Shaw Construction Co 12. Able to price and identify changes to awarded project in a timely manner (process RFIs, PRs, ASIs, etc.) ESTIMATING RESPONSIBILITES 1. Visiting Job Sites and documenting any special condition that could affect production, hoisting, laydown, and concrete placing. 2. Inform estimating and management team any special conditions in regards to the site visit 3. Works with or as the “Lead Estimator” to prepare a complete estimate with all parts of the scope of work either generated by George Shaw or a scope of work written by the Construction Manager or General Contractor 4. Contacts and engages suppliers and subcontractors to determine if they are bidding on a project. 5. Identify problem areas or missing information and generates a Question list to be sent to the general contractor or construction manager in a timely manner to ensure questions are answered. 6. Review the pre-bid schedule issued by general contractors and construction managers and identify if durations are realistic. Schedule review will also consisting of identifying critical durations for reinforcing steel procurement and start dates to ensure our field has adequate manpower and management resources to complete the work. Schedule review will also include review of dates to determine material escalation, winter and summer conditions. 7. Ability to price all general conditions required for the overall concrete scope. These consist of vertical hoisting requirements (when applicable), winter protection (temporary heating , enclosures, insulating blankets, winter concrete charges, etc.), summer conditions (chilled water, provisions for hot and windy conditions, etc.….), horizontal material movement (forklifts, skid steers, LULL), temporary bracing for walls, supervision, bonds, permits, etc. 8. Sets up bid tab sheets for the subcontractor and material bids to ensure a apples to apples analysis is made on bid day 9. Sets up the bid day summary that includes all scope items 10. Collaborates with the management team and estimating team on bid day 11. Follows up with subcontractors on bid day regarding questions or concerns from our team 12. Assembles bid day proposals which includes the following - Writing a standard proposal letter with inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, or filling out and executing bid forms and procuring bid bonds(when specifically required on a project) from our bonding company at least 3-4 days prior to bid. 13. Attend bid lettings (when required) and report results to the sales manager and management team for review. 14. Follow up communications with customers post-bid 15. Analysis and log of proposals through the course of the year to analyze number of bids, awards, and hit/miss ratios. This requirement also includes reporting to the management on a quarterly basis these findings. SCHEDULING Ability to build a pre-bid schedule (when necessary) for large complex concrete structures when little information is provided for analysis by the estimating team , field, and critical subcontractors to ensure durations are realistic. Knowledge of Microsoft Project or similar is preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications, On-Screen Take Off, and any other company standard software appropriate for the position. Proficient with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling program
