Dear Friends:
We are pleased to invite you to join us for the upcoming May 10, 2014 730-215pm Primary Care
Psychiatry Foundation CME conference entitled Women Are From Venus: Psychiatric Disorders in
Females Across the Lifespan held at the Indiana Wesleyan University’s Indianapolis North Education
and Conference Center located at 3777 Priority Way South Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
This is our first of 2 conferences focusing on gender as a differentiator in identification, diagnosis,
treatment and referral of patients with psychiatric disorders. The study of the neurobiology of
gender is in its infancy. For too long we have missed the diagnosis of ADHD and substance use
disorders in women both in the mental health and the primary care setting. Eating disorders and
trauma-related disorders appear more prevalent in women, they too, are easily missed in a primary
care setting where visits are short and focused. There are, of course, unique aspects of disorders of
mood and thought in women related to menses and childbirth.

Women come to the attention of mental health practitioners more openly and willingly than men.
Focusing on gender as a differentiator is one way that we as clinicians can improve the early
identification, diagnosis, treatment and referral of girls and women with psychiatric disorders. Take
this opportunity to register as an attendee for the May 10, 2014 Primary Care Psychiatry Foundation
CME conference.
