STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION PELL CITY HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING GUIDELINES SCHOOL WILL DISMISS AT 1:00 P.M. SYSTEM-WIDE. (NO ONE WILL BE EXCUSED EARLY TO WORK ON FLOATS, CARS, ETC.) CLASS AND CLUB FLOATS A. Each class will construct one float--senior, junior, sophomore, and freshmen classes. B. Transportation will be provided for the Homecoming Court by the Student Government Association. SIZE: Not limited. (See D) C. Each club or organization of PCHS may have a float decorated for the parade. If the club desires to decorate, a contract must be secured from the main office. Finalizing the decorating of floats will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on homecoming day. D. Flatbeds pulled by a truck are allowed. No transfer truck/18-wheelers allowed without permission. E. Student committees may meet to plan floats before or after school. Coordinate these meetings with your class or club sponsor. F. A sketch of the Homecoming float theme (idea) must be turned in to the SGA sponsors no later than September 12, 2014. Please include your float's theme, brief sketch, and items you plan to use for the float's construction. Once approved this theme should not be changed unless another one is turned in and approved. Duplicated themes will be decided upon by the SGA sponsor and administration as fairly as possible G. Do not use any controversial symbols, slogans, vulgar phrases, alcoholic symbols, etc., on the float themes or ideas. H. The 1st vice-president of each club or class will secure a float contract from the website, library, or main office and return it to the main office or library. L. Class or Club Float Truck Contracts: The student(s) securing the truck will contract for the truck. These students will be responsible for having it ready for decoration, driving it in the parade, clean-up, and returning it to the owner on Friday. J. Each float should have a theme and the cost is not limited; cost is to be carried by the club or class. K. Finances: Each class or club is responsible for financing its float. There are to be no solicitations for donations from businesses. Pell City High School will not be responsible for any debts. Classes may set up tables in the lobby to seek donations from class members before or after school. L. Decoration and construction of floats may begin in June. Any group wanting to get things ready to put on floats may work at individual's homes over the summer and weekends. THE SCHOOL ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY WORK DONE AT AN INDIVIDUAL'S HOUSE BEFORE HOMECOMING WEEK. M. Students on floats must be stationary. No movement atop the float is allowed. N. Floats will be built during homecoming week after school at a location determined by the club or class. 0. Class time and school time will not be interrupted for construction of floats. P. At least one faculty chaperon must be present during construction during homecoming week. It is the responsibility of the 1st vice president of the class or club to insure that chaperons are present. Failure to have chaperons will result in disqualification of the float for the parade. (See Homecoming Activities, chaperons) Q. Students must sign up with the class or club sponsor, in advance, to work at the float site during homecoming week. If you have not signed up and show up at the site, you may be asked to leave. Failure to leave upon request may result in disciplinary action. A sign-in sheet will be provided for students working, stating arrival and departure times. R. There are no restrictions on type of materials used; however, the more construction that can be done from "scratch'' the more attractive and original the float will look. (Try to build as much of the float as possible.) S. All work and all assembly of the float is to be done by students of PCHS. The individual classes must furnish all materials. Finalizing the decorating of class or club floats will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00P.M. on homecoming day. T. Floats are to be completed and ready for judging by 2:00 P.M. Homecoming Day. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded. The homecoming court float will not be eligible for judging. U. Each class or club must have a clean-up committee after the parade. SWEETHEART/FAVORITE VEHICLES A. Each club will elect a club sweetheart (female) and/or favorite (male) to represent them in the parade. B. Each club will furnish and decorate a vehicle for the sweetheart and/or favorite to ride in the parade. These can be decorated from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. C. The driver of each vehicle must have a valid driver's license and the vehicle must have liability insurance. D. Each vehicle must be registered with the Parade Marshal. E. Only vehicles representing Pell City High School will be allowed unless approved by the Parade Marshal. F. First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded. G. Sweethearts/favorites/homecoming court are dismissed at 10:00 AM Homecoming Day. All sweetheart/favorites/homecoming court must have pictures made Homecoming Day at 1:00 in the library for the yearbook. You do not have to purchase the pictures; however, packages will be available for purchasing if desired. (Club sponsors; please remind your sweethearts/favorites of this.) PARADE DETAIL A. The parade will leave the parking lot at 3:00P.M. Judging will begin at 2:00P.M. B. The parade marshal will indicate your place in the parade. C. The SGA secures judges. D. The principal invites the police, firemen, and guests. E. The parade route will begin at the High School, travel through town on Highway 78 to Food Outlet. The parade will disband after turning and return to the High School or other designated spot.
