Hosp. Vic. Aust. age 87. D/C 9381. (misprint as Robertws on D/C and Robberts on M/C). He married FRANCES
STEED 11 September 1853 in Parish of St Giles, County of Cambridge, England. M/C 308, daughter of P ETER STEED
and ELIZABETH PITCHARD. She was born 1829 in Great Wibraham, Cambridge, England, and died 6 August 1891 in
Majors Line, Vic. Aust. age 60. D/C 10760. ( Inq. ref. No 950.).
Notes for THOMAS ROBERTS:
Thomas's D/C shows that he was born in London and lived his last 71 years in N.S.W. and Victoria.
He migrated when he was about 16 and returned to England and married Frances in her hometown of Cambridge,
when he was 33.
There is one entry on the passenger list on the "Tamar" of a 34 year old Thomas Roberts and family arriving in Sydney
in 1853. (Reel 2136 page 2465). This may be our ancestors.
I can find no birth, marriage or death entries for their first born child in Sydney or Victoria (as yet). Perhaps she was
born in England or at sea. (This would fit in with the Thomas and family details on the Tamar.) This child shows up as
'girl still living' or it could be 'twin still living' in the sibling column on Eliza's B/C.
Eliza was born in 1856 soon after the family arrived in Tooborac in Victoria, where Thomas had bought land.
Thomas is listed as a miner on his D/C. Both Thomas and Frances are buried in the Heathcote cemetery.

Notes for ELIZA ROBERTS:
I cannot find Eliza's death under the surname of Keefe in Vic. records. There is an Eliza Jane Serpell whose father
was Thomas Roberts but whose mother's name was given as Grace Casely (not Frances Steed), who died in Bendigo in
1925 at the age of 69. This woman has the same given names, age and father's name as our Eliza and I always thought
she lived in Bendigo before her death. I cannot find a marriage between a Serpell and a Roberts or a Keefe as yet, in the
Vic Records and I have not checked the N.S.Ws.records.

Unconfirmed information as to this being our Edward :Edward William Roberts married Mary Eileen McKay in 1925. M/C 7562. They had a daughter die in 1933 at the
age of 1 year. Her name was Patricia Mary Roberts and her D/C is No.8639.
Mary Eileen Roberts died in Richmond in 1943 aged 42. D/C 10298. Her parents were James Mckay and Mary
McMahon.

Allan Roberts says that Ted worked for many years in Victoria Railways and before his retirement was a Station Master in
Melbourne. Edna Roberts used to have a joke about Ted because she reckoned it took him several hours to have lunch (Slow eater
and good talker) Ted Roberts married Julia Bonney and they had son named Bill. Bill Roberts spent many years as an emplyee of
Elders and Young Husband (Wool and Farming Companies) Bill Roberts died some years ago, Bill's wife also died (Cancer) Bill
had two daughters and I can't remember their names.
Les Roberts recalls:
"Ted was an uncle we got to spend a great deal of time with, he married Julia- and she came from a country area out West from
Heathcote. She was loud and boisterous. Ted was gentle, quiet, slow, lovely. He smoked a pipe. He would take an hour to eat
his main course, and when he went to speak he would take 60 seconds to say that which might me 15 seconds. His 'speed' used to
drive mum crazy. But she did love him. Dad and Ted were the two youngest, only about 3 years apart in age I think. They were
close mates, and whilst Ted was alive dad was fine, he felt he
still had 'family'. At Ted's funeral at Springvale dad was a basket case, he could hardly stand, and cried and cried, and stated to
Allan and me that he just wanted to die and be with Ted. Dad really lost the will to live at that point. He soon died himself,
would have been 2 years I reckon. Dad was never the same. Ted and Julia and son Bill lived near Glen Waverley, alongside the
railway line, near Blackburn Road, in Syndal. I stayed there occasionally, and when
your mum and I were courting we would go there often, sometimes for a meal. He was good value."

Re. death of Ada Roberts (m/n) :- Ada married John Hebbard in 1888 and they had a daughter Annie Frances in 1893
in Colac.
I cannot find Ada's death cert. under the surname of Hebbard but find what I believe is Ada under the surname of
Scott. This Ada's parents are Thomas Roberts and Unknown Steele, which I believe should read Frances Steed not
Steele. She was 74 when she died in 1939 which fits in with our Ada. (The same mistaken mother's maiden name was
on her sister Rosa's D/C.)
There is another entry pertaining to the Scotts and the Roberts familys in Colac. It reads:- Ada Leona Scott (maiden
name was Roberts) died in Colac in 1958 age 66. She was born to Robert Roberts & Phillipa Grey in 1891 B/C
31859, and married Robert Eugene Scott in 1923 M/C 8093.
