Security for Microsoft SkyDrive: BoxCryptor for Windows 8 is now
available in the Windows store
Just a few days after the launch of Windows 8, the new BoxCryptor for Windows 8 app is
available in the Windows store. For SkyDrive users this is an easy way to access their
encrypted files in SkyDrive and use Microsoft’s storage provider without sacrificing safety and
comfort. Moreover, an update of the regular BoxCryptor for Windows version is available –
now with Windows 8 and multi-language support.
Augsburg, 02.11.2012: A few days ago, Microsoft officially released the successor of its operating system
Windows 7: the new Windows 8. On this new operating system, some programs are installed by default,
among others, Microsoft’s cloud storage provider SkyDrive. Millions of users already use this service and
with the Windows 8 release most likely countless new users will join.
Nevertheless, a lot of users have concerns when it comes to using storage services such as this one due
to aspects related to data privacy and security. BoxCryptor, the most easy to use encryption software
optimized for cloud storage, offers these users a solution to their problem. With BoxCryptor, users can
encrypt files in a quick and easy way using the highest security standards and without giving up any
comfort. For private users the software is available for free for all main platforms (Windows, Mac OS X,
Android and iPhone/iPad) and supports Microsoft SkyDrive as well as other storage providers such as
Dropbox and Google Drive.
It is very useful for the current and potential BoxCryptor users that the new BoxCryptor for Windows 8
App (in the „modern UI“design) has been released at the same time as Windows 8. This app gives users
the possibility to download, decrypt and open their encrypted files stored in SkyDrive with a complete
new user experience. In contrast to the normal Windows version, BoxCryptor for Windows 8 directly
downloads each file from SkyDrive and decrypts it locally on the device.
The app is available for free in the Windows store and can also be installed and used on Microsoft’s
tablet “Surface” or any other tablet with Windows RT.
The current version of BoxCryptor for Windows 8 only supports read access and decrypts only files stored
in Microsoft SkyDrive. Nevertheless more features such as write access or connection to other providers
(e.g. Dropbox or Google Drive) are in development.
Users who currently want to use another cloud storage provider or need write access to their files can
use the new BoxCryptor for Windows 1.5 version. In addition from the mandatory Windows 8 support,
BoxCryptor for Windows 1.5 is now also available in different languages.
