Lit Review (How do Zoos…) This article gives information on zoos’ contributions towards the eradication of endangered species. Most zoos participate in this program called the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Program in an attempt to breed endangered marine and other specific species to provide for a sustainable population. Most species however that become a subject for the Species Survival Program (SSP) are selected through popularity along with level of endangerment. “To be selected as the focus of an SSP, a species must be endangered or threatened in the wild. Also, many SSP species are “flagship species,” meaning that they are well-known to people and engender strong feelings for their preservation and the protection of their habitat.” (Traw) Lit Review (Marine Conservation Organizations) This website, displays the efforts of a very dedicated conservation group called MarineBio. It gives links to specific organizations and groups that focus on certain endangerment topics. They believe by sharing the wonders and amazing majesties of the ocean that people will be encouraged to maintain it. In relation to Marine Life, this website has a lot of articles and specific areas to feed off of and one can learn about the endangerment of many animals. Lit Review (How to Help) This website talks about a few ways that one can help save an endangered species. It’s really big on the 3 R’s as well as habitat conservation. It also encourages people including kids that writing to a Representative or Senator is a good way to state how you feel about species protection in your area. This website is really a good one to get kids into endangered species awareness while providing general information for anyone. By giving ways we can help save endangered species, this site is very useful. Definition of Endangered Species To convey the importance of technology and to write a paper about its possible effect on endangered species it is obvious that one needs to know what an endangered species actually is. This website gives a quick summary of what an endangered species is and in which cases it is appropriate to use the word endangered. The main point conveyed is that an endangered species is an animal or plant species that is on the brink of extinction. It is important to know when to use the term and the legitimate definition of the word endangered which makes this site a good reference. Species Protected Under the Endangered Species Act This site is a very useful one indeed. It lists all of the endangered and threatened marine animals. It also gives a good background and in depth explanation of what exactly the Endangered Species Act did/does. Listing types of species under their groups such as mammals, plants, marine turtles and so on makes it easier to recognize where the bulk of endangered marine animals lie. Ideally, this website is the best to look at for a quick summary of what the ESA is, as said before but also the “go to” website for endangered species vocabulary and facts about certain animals.
