Gators Take Home Prowler Invite Title
Coach Bergeron
The Gator Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School division were all in action Saturday,
January, 19th at the Engelstad Arena in TRF. All three divisions found a lot of success
throughout the day. The Gator Varsity walked away with a very solid team championship,
finishing 34 points in front of a very solid Bemidji Lumberjack team. The Gators took home the
title with tremendous balance throughout the day. The Gators took home one title in senior
Tomm Ingle, and five runner-ups in Isaak Isane, Wyatt Becker, Brandon Waage, Jake Jenson,
and John Westman. The Gators had three other wrestlers finish with solid 3rd placers in Devin
Dostal, Nick Kaml, and Corey Hasbrouck. Gunner Gust finished 4th, while Beau Blumer finished
6th. Ethan Daugnault wrestled hard but came one win away from placing. Impressively the
Gators took home the title with two open weight classes and showed what you can do with 11
place winners in a field of 16 teams. The Gator varsity will savor this impressive victory, but
don’t have too much time to think about it as they will be wrestling in a rare Monday night
event in Mahnomen. This is an event that is being made up due to bad weather conditions. The
Gators will be in action at 4 pm in Mahnomen when they take on United Clay Becker ( Lake
Park/Hawley), and will wrestle again at 6 pm and 7:30 pm.
The Gator 9th-12th Grade JV was also in action, battling to a hard fought 3rd place finish
as a team behind Ottertail Central and Fargo Davies. The Gator JV took home two titles in
freshman Hunter Gullikson and Trevor Undeberg. Cody Olson had a hard fought 2nd place
finish, while Nash Sovde and Adam Lorenson finished in 3rd. Lorenson showed a lot of talent in
doing this as he jumped up a division to wrestle in the 9th-12th grade JV division. Dakota
Gullikson, Collin Berard and Ethan Novacek finished 4th. Closing out the placing for the Gator JV
were Daron Sikorski,5th, and Ely Novacek, 6th. Sebastian Vanderport and Brody Rasmusson
battled hard but came just shy of placing.
The Gator Middle School was also in action as they had a very impressive showing. They
posted a 19-2 record on the day, taking home 6 titles in Owen Novacek, Bryce Bergeron, Jack
Peppel, Seth Dostal, Elias Jacobson and Trinity Clark. Austin Maurstad finished with a very hard
fought 3rd place finish.
The Gators will have to get ready for their busiest week of the year as the Varsity travels
to Mahnomen on Monday the 21st, the 7th-9th Grade will travel to Bemidji on Tuesday the
22nd, and the Gators will have a home event against the Lumberjacks on Thursday the 24th.
Note that Thursday the 24th will be an early start with JV action starting at 5:30 pm and Varsity
at 6:30 pm. The Gator Varsity will finish out the marathon week as they cross the border to do
battle in Larimore on Saturday, January 26th, with action for the Varsity only tournament
starting at 10 am.
The Gators would like to thank the fans that braved the stormy weather and showed
their great support for the Gator wrestling team. Come on out and show your support for the
Gators as they take the mat on a very busy week.
