Popular Culture Group Presentations Your group’s task is to research your assigned decade and present your findings on the “Pop Culture Trends” of the Decade. Tasks: 1. Handout The Decade Top Grossing Movies for each year & Best Picture Award Top Song from each year Names of Popular Actors and Actresses (2 each) plus 2 movies they starred in Names of Popular Singers or Groups (2) name at least 2 of their hits from that decade Make a ONE page handout for the class. I will make copies for you. You may add anything else to your handout, but the items listed above are “bare minimum.” Your handout must be typed; text size should be 12 or 14 font. Headers may be slightly larger. Proofread your handout! You will lose points for misspelled words. 2. Presentation (Should last 10 minutes) You must go over the information on your handout during your presentation and tell about 5 major events (news stories) that happened during your decade. The remainder of your presentation is up to you some suggestions of what to include are: Clothing and Dress styles that are unique to your decade Famous books that were written during your decade Popular TV shows from your decade Popular toys or games that were introduced during your decade Expand on the movies or song discussion if a particular type of genre was popular at the time. Your presentation should keep the class’s interest. You will have access to my computer and the projector if you need it for your presentation. Be Creative. You have wide latitude so use your imagination. 3. Something Special to your Decade During your presentation, your group should do “something special” to grab the class’s attention. Some suggestions are listed below. Keep in mind that these are only suggestions. You may do one or more “special” things. Play a popular song from your decade (clear it with me first) Dress in your decade’s “style” Show the trailer from a popular movie of your decade (clear it with me first) Bring in a popular game or toy from your decade The “something special” must occur during your presentation time. Practicing your presentation will be important. 4. Quiz Prepare a quiz (in Kahoot to be projected) to be given to the class after your presentation is complete The class may use your handout to answer the quiz The quiz is to be 10 questions long Each group will be graded using the following rubrics: Handout (60 possible points) Title and Group Members Names (10 pts) Top Grossing Film/ Best Picture for each year (10 pts) Top Song for each year (10 pts) 2 Actors& 2 Actresses and Movies (20 pts) 2 groups/singers and songs (10 pts) Presentation (100 possible points) News Story 1 (10 pts) News Story 2 (10 pts) News Story 3 (10 pts) News Story 4 (10 pts) News Story 5 (10 pts) Presentation Time Limit (30 pts) Something Special (15 pts) Everyone Speaks (5 pts) Quiz/Stamp (40 possible points) 10 question quiz (30 pts) Decade Stamp (10 pts) You will probably have anywhere from 10-12 slides on average, maybe even a few more. You can split up the work amongst your group to who is making the slides, the quiz, the actual presentation, etc. Please make sure all group members are contributing, and feel free to get on someone who isn’t doing their part.
