UTK VolsTeach Noyce Scholarship Application for Future Teachers in STEM Disciplines Background: The UTK VolsTeach Program seeks to identify outstanding future teachers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines that are participating in the VolsTeach Program for receipt of Noyce Scholarships and Internships. Juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for a Noyce Scholarship. Scholarship recipients will receive $12,000/year for their junior and/or senior year as long as the student remains in good academic & professional standing. Recipients will also receive an additional $10,000 of professional development monies during their first year of teaching when they accept a position in a high need (Title 1) school district. (The school district must be high need, not necessarily that school.) Thus, the possible award could be a maximum of $34,000 over 3 years. This award requires two years of full-time teaching be completed in a school system designated as high need. Scholarship recipients who fail to complete the program or secure employment in a high need school system will be required to repay the monies received within eight years of graduation or leaving the program. The following criteria will be considered in selecting recipients for the Noyce scholarships: Career goals Field experience performance Financial situation Completion of Licensure Requirements listed below: o o o o o o o o o maintain a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA and a 2.5 GPA in the minor pass a hearing and speech screening successfully complete a background check demonstrate positive professional dispositions score a minimum ACT 22 or R-SAT 1020 earn a minimum of 45 credit hours for Math majors, complete: Math 141, 142 and 6hrs of 200 level Math; for Science majors, complete 8 hrs of lab natural science; and be enrolled or have completed Classroom Interactions (SCED 433/MEDU433).
